I do not have my grandchildren near me, as my oldest son lives outside our country and they come to visit us every now and then. The last time was just about three months ago, and I had a wonderful time with my little grandchildren. But, "in the absence of grandchildren nearby," I have a couple of godsons who are the children of my son's best friend from childhood and youth, and for all intents and purposes, they are like my grandchildren too, and I love them as if they were of my own blood... In recent days, one of them, the oldest, a nine-year-old boy with a mind so brilliant that he frequently leaves me speechless with his way of conversing and the topics he handles, suddenly asked me the following: "Godfather, do miracles exist?". And I, almost without thinking, replied quickly: "Of course miracles exist, I take pictures of them almost daily." And then I spoke freely to him about it and said things like: "The people we have close by who greet us with affection, the dogs that look at us and know us on the streets, the cats that intuit they can approach us without fearing anything, the morning mist, a spiderweb bathed in dew drops... All those things and more are miracles happening daily"... Then I remained in silence, a bit troubled, because I immediately thought that this was not the most appropriate response for a child of such a young age. But, against all odds, both he and his 5-year-old brother (another wonderful boy, majestically joyful and intelligent, and also my godson) stared at me, nodding their heads slowly... Then, "a miracle certainly happened," because the youngest of my godsons said: "Just like I sing and play the drum in my music classes, that is also a miracle"... And shortly after, the oldest of both boys added: "Or like when that hummingbird made its nest in the garden plant and the tiny chicks were born"... Then I let them speak and list "their miracles," and I felt delighted, grateful, and amazed, because now it was I who looked at them, nodding my head slowly...
