Here's the ruleset

Lineup:

Summoner: Bortus

Bortus debuffs magic attacks from my opponent

Tank: Wave Brood

The taunt ability is great for protecting the rest of my team and the high life total is very difficult to overcome in connection with healing.

1st and 2nd position: Fiend and Chicken

I had slots available but no mana available. These are extremely likely to come into play with this type of lineup but they do serve to improve the SPS capture rate if you happen to be playing with a ghost card. I didn't have any ghost cards in this battle but it's a good habit to be in if you happen to.

3rd position: Angelic Mandarin

1 ranged attack and 5 health are solid if uninspiring statistics for 3 mana.

4th position: Merdaali Guardian

Tank Heal works best when it's healing something with a high life total like the Wave Brood.

5th position (rear tank): Crustacean King

More tank healing. Between this and the Guardian I can heal the Wave Brood for 8 life each round and that's tough to overcome.

Did my strategy work?

No. My opponent didn't have the firepower to take out my Wave Brood with those massive amounts of healing, but with my poor firepower I didn't have the strength to overcome my opponent's healing either.

Do I like Angelic Mandarin?

Not very well. The stats are very reasonable, but it doesn't synergize particularly well with the strategies that I employ in the water splinter and I generally have better options across the board. The Mandarin gets better at higher levels but not enough to win out over most other options.

What will I try differently next time?

I frequently use a strategy similar to this but in place of the Angelic Mandarin I'll use something to get at the back line such as Uraeus or Pelacor Bandit. My favorite monster to use against my opponent's backline in this strategy is Coral Wraith.
