A Sticking New Bud
One day noticed something different in my monstera plant. A new bud is sticking out from the stem. It is easy to notice because of the light green color. I then decided to take pictures of it every day to document it. A new leaf is added every three weeks but of course, it depends on how you take care of your plant.
I bought my monstera online and it is freaking expensive but looks cute, right? I like its simplicity. Now I am forced to take care of it, haha! I was looking for a plant back then to put in my room.
I am not fond of plants with many tiny leaves like ferns. I like those plants with big leaves, which make the room zen-ish.
I find some pegs on Pinterest on what plants are good for bedrooms. They said that monstera cleanses the toxins in the air which makes people fall asleep faster, better, and longer. There are other plants though but I do not find them to fit my liking.
Delicious Monster
Monstera deliciosa means delicious monster. It was named as such because the fruit is both delicious and dangerous. For the unripe fruits, there is a substance called oxalate crystals that can irritate the throat and the mouth and may inflame the tissues.
Documenting
I took pictures every day!
Day 1: July 17th
This is when I noticed the new leaf. It is a bit soft. I should have not touched it because it might not grow. It is just my paranoid brain telling myself.
This plant needs sunlight so it is best to put it near windows. Do not put it directly on light, though. It will not thrive in direct sunlight but can tolerate it.
Day 2: July 18th
The stem is longer this time. Nothing much is new. On watering, I just water it twice or thrice the most in a week. I make sure that the soil is dry in between waterings. If the day is too hot, I water them often.
Day 3: July 19th
The new leaf is unwrapping. I can see the cuts on the leaf. I am so amazed by this plant on how the leaves are formed.
Day 4: July 20th
The new leaf is spreading. Starting to shape like a heart. Noticed here that some of my monstera's leaves have dry tips. I feel like the culprit is underwatered and dry pot.
Day 5: July 21st
A little bit more stretch! Monsteras' leaves can irritate our dear pets and hoomans too. So, keep this plant out of reach to kids and pets.
Day 6: July 22nd
Finally, she is finally stretched! You can definitely see the difference in the color of the new leaf compared to the rest of the leaves.
It is not really that hard to take care of monstera. Just have proper research of the plant. Be mindful of the sunlight, watering, soil, humidity, temperature, precautions, and common problems.
I will see you in the next one!
