I was pretty pumped about yesterday for a lot of reasons and I knew I had to share it with the community. I’d said a number of times here that I’d only been to cafes outside my state and there wasn’t one, at least no good one that I’d seen in my city.
So I’d been randomly viewing status on WhatsApp when I saw that of a friend who shared her exhilarating experience in a café, with pictures to add. I knew this particular friend also lived in my city so I asked her what café that was and she directed me.
To be honest, I’m very much the indoor type so even though the street where the café was situated was pretty popular, it took me asking several people for directions and almost getting lost to find it. And when I did, I was elated and nervous at the same time. Elated cause I was relieved and nervous because I didn’t know what to do at that point. I quickly took a picture of the sign outside and walked in.
The first thing I noticed was the size. I’m not sure if there was an inner room but the room that I saw was small and also very cozy. I’m not sure if it was the nice lo-fi tunes that were playing in the background or the general outlook, but I felt immediately at ease. I saw a lady and a gentleman who seemed to be on a coffee date from the looks of it. Apart from two other waiters, I saw no one else.
I was kind of sceptical when I saw the bar behind the counter. I desperately wanted the café to be my ideal coffee shop so I didn’t need anything, like the fact that it was also some sort of bar to compromise that. However, I fixed a smile on my face, sat down and asked to see their menu. They pointed at the card in front of me where a QR code was printed on and said that the menu would come out once I scanned it.
I grinned at how unexpectedly bougie it turned out to be and scanned it with my phone. I had a slight difficulty and I didn’t want to get nettled so I asked if they had a hardcopy menu. It was presented, I looked it over and decided on a regular coffee and also inquired if there was provision for me to make it myself. They replied in the affirmative and soon enough, I was presented with my tray of steamed water, coffee granules, milk and sugar.
I paused for a bit and took pictures. I was giddy with excitement but I like to believe that my face didn’t show it as I put a rather generous amount of milk into my cup of coffee granules since I was feeling sweet and added two teaspoons of sugar. I hoped with all my heart that it would have a rich taste. Bad coffee could leave you with such a sad feeling and even PTSD. I’ve had my share of horrible coffee so I wasn't looking for another experience. Slowly, I sipped on my coffee.
Dear readers and coffee lovers alike, the taste of the coffee was rich, exquisite and induced me with such a sublime feeling, to say the least. I sipped on it severally and simply savoured the rich flavour it gifted my taste buds with. It was such a wonderful experience and I knew I’d finally found home. At least for the while I resided in this city.
In response to the prompt, I feel, and not because I ordered just coffee, that I prefer taking my coffee alone. At least for the first cup anyways. That first cup is pretty important and I like to savour it as well as possible. So, as much as I’d love to snack on something while sipping on my coffee, it is not of prior importance to me. At least not as much as the coffee itself.
But I would say that I absolutely adore coffee snacks and now that I know that Kitchies’ Cafe serves excellent coffee, I would be trying out their coffee snacks the next time I visit. So, there you have it guys. Just when I thought that all was lost in terms of café discovery in my city, this café was discovered and actively ticks all the boxes. Maybe it was just a slow day but I’m happy it’s not one that’s overly crowded. The staff were polite and had good customer service, very very important the décor and background were cozy, and of course, the coffee was just right.
Now that I’ve discovered this one, I may just start exploring the city for other wonderful café’s as well. Till next time everyone, have a coffeelicious day.☕
