Hello, Ladies of Hive community!
Greetings, today I bring you the story of someone from my past, I thought of her as someone who placed herself in bad situations throughout her life, but now I see how wrong I was. My memory of her is vindicated to the respect and admiration she should've always had from me, keep growing Verenice, keep setting the example of overcoming adversity.
Unconquered
Verenice was a quiet girl, she had a childhood plagued with abuse at the hands of her parents, more specifically her mother, who was abusive with the children, for her mother the only way to correct a child was to make it go through humiliations, yelling, or even worse, beatings. This is what she gave Verenice and her brother Valentino to understand.
While her father made the mistake of leaving all the upbringing to the mother, a man of his time I suppose. He was a professional boxer who decided, having it reaffirmed after the arrival of his brother, to spend the rest of his life working as a truck driver, for a brand of sugary drinks.
In the face of so much violence and pain, she learned to resist. With that always came first and foremost, her resilience. Everywhere she went in her life, as she grew to be a teenager, then a woman, who everyone could define as resilient, strong, and unconquerable.
After an adolescence fearful of drawing negative attention for not seeking to attract one of the countless beatings her parents gave Valentino, as he decided to be a rebel in the face of family injustices. Verenice came to adulthood with a strong desire, to tell the truth, to communicate realities and that is why she became a journalist.
Little did she know that love was in her future, her first partner was a charming man, one of those who make you fall in love with his charisma and good speech. She was in her first place of work, and for the first time, she did not listen to her mother's orders, who told her with much concern that this man was not for her.
A short time later, recently graduated and after the purchase of her first car, she decided that it would be good to marry this man, whom her family had learned to tolerate.
It was a quiet marriage, until her husband fell into the problem of drinking, little by little his treatment of Verenice changed, he became more aggressive and repressive. As the months passed she became pregnant by him and her mother rejected her from the family, her sad father only followed what her mother said, she did not understand why, but her parents did.
Her husband soon assaulted her for the first time, in the middle of drunkenness when they moved to a small room, he did not hesitate to attack her verbally and then physically because she asked him to stop drinking, because if she had any problem or emergency with the baby, he had to be sober to drive and this angered that violent man, after the aggression he left that place in Verenice's car, which he sold and wasted that money on more alcohol and women.
After a while Verenice thanked God for the resilient soul he had given her, the baby was fine, and her husband constantly returned to mistreat her. Another weaker soul would have lost the baby of a miscarriage in the face of such a picture of violence.

Eventually, she spoke to her parents and forgave them. Proceeded to move back to her childhood home, her brother had left and formed his own home. After she spoke with her parents, they agreed to a safe environment for herself and her daughter, however, she was pregnant, unbeknownst to her at the time.
Her husband was still looking for her, every time he left alcohol he was the charmer she had fallen in love with, every time he was dedicated to drinking the violent monster she was running away from returned. But she was still there, without crying and her head unbowed, without screaming like a child, no more.
Finally came the day he crossed the line, her husband assaulted her daughter, and that was the last moment of abuse she tolerated. He walked away bloodied, and she watched him with her forehead held high, a lone tear running along with the blood on her forehead. After that it was two decades before she let him back through that threshold, the day he came to apologize to his children, in tears and sick, regretting every mistake.
Verenice received him, with a look full of strength, without fear, the years had passed for Verenice. The Violent One had become weak, hurt, and destroyed by the years, she was healthy in heart, soul, and mind.
When we last spoke, she was a professional of the truths, a journalist hidden in the body of an office worker. During our last conversation, I could swear I could hear her whisper "I am master of my fate and captain of my soul" as we talked about the truths of my life, she knew I would not return to that home, I was still unaware, so much truth did she know, and we parted without further ado as we finished a coffee, just another soul she taught an eternal truth, that you have to be resilient.
I hope you enjoyed my short story, I invite you to support me as you wish and excuse me if the story is darker than it should be, but sometimes life is cruel, and those cruelties should not be forgotten, I wait for you in the comments in case you want to tell me any anecdote of resilience, see you soon.

¡Hola Ladies of Hive!
