THE FOOL, PETRO DURO

Petro Duro was born good as children are born in the world, but when he grew up he became stupid; not so much when he grew up, but when he married, because he married small, because he was barely one meter tall. His first wife left him before dawn, the second left him after dawn; the fifth did not leave him, and even made him famous for how they talked about Petro in the neighborhood; the fifth did not take anything from him like the first who brought him food, and like the second who left him without a fridge and without a kitchen; the fifth did not go to take from him, but to give him work because the man had to buy a new fridge, a new kitchen and new everything.

What Petro Duro never wanted to buy was a saw and that was when he was told that he no longer carried the horns, but that the horns carried him, and not upwards, because as the horns are a symbol of the devil, they cannot point towards the sky, so they extended sideways and if Petro did not fall to the ground it was because the right horn balanced the left, and they continued to grow until the tip of both began to touch the ground and it was then when they said that Petro Duro no longer walked alone, but that his own horns carried him, that the way they were going, he would end up as a yuguero ox.

And so it happened because from early in the morning you would find Petro, plowing; until it got dark and he returned home and there was his wife, waiting for him, and so that he would have a share in the fruit of the harvest, she would send him to peel potatoes, to eat and to rest because later came the other work of agriculture.

It seemed that Petro Duro was destined to change the skin of a man for that of an ox, until one day the quinta gave him permission to go to the bar; and already, drunk with alcohol and false advice, he got the best he had; determined he went home and as he had no keys, he broke the door with his horns; and as he wanted a weapon, he went quietly to the kitchen; With the knife in his hand he went to the bedroom; he looked at the bed and saw her, the fifth, with her lover; he got angry and opened the closet, and it was then that he got angrier because he discovered that those were not his clothes; enraged he threw them in a bag, also her clothes and on top of them his clothes; he emptied them in the yard and set fire to them.

And when they asked him why he had burned his own clothes, the fool said that naked we come into the world and with nothing we leave, he said that the woman and her lover must have realized that they had run out of clothes, and indeed, they were still naked, stoked in surrender and now heated devilishly by the bonfire that Petro Duro had lit in the courtyard.

When that was that they said that Petro Duro had been born good as children are born in the world; that the marriages made him goofy, but that the quito made him worse because, from the clothes he had pinned in the yard, he forgot to take out the bodies, the one of the quita and the one of his lover.
