Today is #TBT Thursday, a time to reminisce about past events that have left a special mark in our mind and soul. It should not surprise many of you that again I talk about music, practically my life revolves around it, but this time I was not a protagonist, but a spectator. This was recent, just in the days of the last Holy Week when inspired by the feeling of reflection of those days I came to a small concert in the center of the city, I did not know it would have such an impact on my being, and now I tell you why...
What inspired me the most this day was the dose of reality I received. Many will follow my stories as a chorister member of the national choir of my country, a group that has given me great and luxurious musical moments in the most important theaters, concert tours, televised events and a gala uniform that I love and wear with great pride, but my group does not reflect the reality of the Venezuelan choral movement. Just look at these pictures and the humility of this concert, the place, the uniforms.... There are no luxuries, but everything was perfect here and people came here of their own free will, just as I did, for the simple pleasure of listening to sacred music during Holy Week.
This choir is called Ritornello, and this concert was in the Museo Sacro de Caracas. The director is one of the tenors who sings next to me in my choral group and a fellow countryman of my hometown Maracay, but among its members there are other people who also belong to the national choir, this makes me think that maybe I am not the only one who longs to return to those musical roots where we sang just for pleasure and not because it is our job, of course I'm not complaining, but in the end in a job we are forced to attend, instead these small choirs are pure passion wanting to get afloat. I even know a whole family that sings in this choir, the two parents and the two children, and this reminds me of my own family.
I would love to sing in my free time in a smaller musical group, as it is, but for that I need to have free time 😅 the truth is that between the national choir, my family and Hive I should not acquire more commitments. Regarding the professional aspect it could be seen as a setback, but those who are musicians know that it is not, we must always be present where the passion calls us. Of course it would be different if my dad was alive and invited me to be in one of the many choirs he conducted, in fact deep down this is what I remembered most this day, the pleasure of making music only with people I know and who mean something to me; I admire and respect each of my colleagues in the choir and orchestra, but often I do not even know the name of the people who make music with me. Anyway, a small concert at Easter really made a big impact on me, and to this day I still reflect on it...
