When it comes to the question of whether God allows polygamy, the answer isn't entirely black and white. In the Old Testament, we see examples of respected men like Abraham, Jacob, David, and Solomon having multiple wives. These stories suggest that while God did not explicitly forbid polygamy at the time, it was more a matter of cultural acceptance than divine preference. God tolerated it, but it often led to conflict, jealousy, and brokenness within families, which implies it was not part of His ideal plan for relationships.
Looking deeper into God's heart for marriage, we see a clearer picture in the New Testament. Jesus referred back to the beginning when God created one man and one woman and joined them as “one flesh.” This design reflects God’s original intention for marriage a loving, faithful union between two people. While polygamy was allowed in ancient times, the New Testament emphasizes monogamy as the model for Christian life. So, it seems God’s tolerance of polygamy in the past doesn’t mean it was ever His best for us rather, He worked within human flaws while pointing us toward a better way.
