Last Monday morning, we safely reached our first destination during our Kapatagan Tour at Palo 10 Kapatagan, Digos City despite of a planned trip that didn't turned well.
We are so happy as we stepped on the place, thankful for a safe trip despite of the circumstances that we didn't expect.
As we reached there, all of us uttered different words of appreciation. We said wow! The place is so cold, the place is so relaxing, the place is quiet and calm, the view is a therapy through our eyes, the plants are so healthy, the water and vegetables are abundant on that place.
This little house with the lovely family living here welcome us warmly.
After we set in, our men were busy preparing a goat for our lunch and some of us prepare food for our breakfast. I'm not into cooking, so I leave it for them but I'm into gardening that it seems there garden were calling my name to visit them.
I went outside and take a look at their garden. Let's go, come with me!
On the right side of their house, I saw these plants:
I saw two beds of sweet potatoes, one kind each bed. They looks so healthy if we look at their leaves.
Next to it is a lot of radish. They're still young and they need more time to grow and bear fruits.
In front side of their house, I saw corn that already bears fruit. In a month or less this might be ready for harvest.
I am also amazed to find mung beans planted in between of the corn. They were still young and I guess they were planted when the corn is about to bear fruit. When these corns will be harvested, these mung beans will have enough space to grow.
Next to it is the bell pepper who is old enough but still bears fruit. The owner said they just harvested ripe fruits a day ago.
Standing there, I saw this afar. It is a tomato garden or plantation owned by their neighbor and that field looks empty have a tiny tomatoes planted there.
Beside the corn, I saw these fortune plant or flowers. It seems like it serves as a boundary between lands because as per the owner, a lot beside it that has bananas is not theirs.
On the left side of their house, I saw this one kalamansi bearing some little fruits. We need some during our breakfast but we can't use them that time because they are still very young. Instead we use coconut vinegar that time.
Beside it, they have spring onions. They look healthy because its leaves are big. They are few but it's enough to provide the need of the family.
I also saw these chayote whose fruits are happily hanging there. It seems that they are calling me to pick some. Its vines are few but it bears a lot of fruits, so amazing.
I also found some water spinach and it looks like they just planted it. I believe this will grow healthy like the other plants on their garden.
Below their house, I saw a mini fish pond. Wow! The family could eat fresh fish if they want and they will just get some in the pond.
After a little tour around their garden, I went back to the kitchen and the owner said she will ask some tomatoes from their neighbors so we could use it on our dried fish escabetche and we could bring some going home. I volunteered to go with her so I could help her carry some tomatoes. My son go with us too and we have a little walk towards there neighbor.
Houses in the countryside is a little far from each other unlike in the cities where walls is the only thing that divide from one house to another.
We passed by a banana plantation and they're so many. I am amazed to see banana being covered by a plastic.
Before we reach to their neighbor's house we passed by this little bridge made of wood. Their is a little river below. I am so happy to experienced this again, walking on a small bridge made of wood - bamboos to be specific and one coconut wood in the middle.
Their neighbors house is sorrounded with beautiful flowering flowers. It really made their house more beautiful. Flowers really brings warmth and beauty in the house.
While roaming around the sun is up but we cannot feel the heat of the sun like what is in the city because the air is cold.
This is the lot we saw a while ago that looks empty but they just planted tomatoes here.
We harvested tomatoes and wow! A lot of ripe tomatoes. If you noticed, there are some ripe tomatoes. The owner leave them there because there are damaged and it will be rejected in the market but it is still good for consumption.
I also helped in harvesting. I like the feeling of being there, experiencing something new. My pants became wet that time as the grass are still filled with dew.
I carry a lot of tomatoes we harvested while ate the owner of the house where we stay looks for some squash in the nearby garden offered by their neighbor.
As we walk home walking in different way, I am amazed to find flower garden too. There is a baby's breath flower garden but it seems it old enough because it bears a little flower.
We also passed by on this garden where their neighbor planted napa cabbage or we commonly call it here Chinese cabbage.
Most of them is not good but we can still find some that is good.
We didn't get some because it is not ours but later on the owner informed us that we can get it all because they will prepare the land again for the next planting.
We go back there together with some of colleagues bringing some knife and sack where we can put our harvest. This time I forgot to bring my cellphone so I won't have any pictures to show how we enjoyed harvesting this cabbage for free.
We just choose those Chinese cabbage having good leaves because others is not good anymore because as per the owner they didn't put any spray on it.
That was my experiences during our visit at Palo 10 Kapatagan. We are truly amazed how fertile their soil there. The plants grows well and so healthy. The vegetables bears a lot of fruits.
Another thing I love in their place is that water is plenty and it's free. The clean water is just flowing in the small river.
The water is just flowing even on their sink. We even joked who used the water that didn't close the faucet.
Wow! People there are so blessed with fertile soil, abundant water plus the cool weather that brings warmth to plants that help them bears a lot of fruits. People there only need courage and strength to plant because nature itself helps them to have a plenty harvest.
People there could eat their harvest freshly from their garden. Plants and vegetables are also their source of income there.
Kapatagan is a place located in the highlands of Digos City. It is a very cold place where clouds seems so near. It is positioned on the foothills of Mt. Apo.
Kapatagan in Tagalog means plains but we wonder why it is called Kapatagan where in fact all you can see there is mountains and hills.
If you could visit Digos City, you can visit Kapatagan as it is a very beautiful place to relax. They also have a lot of beautiful tourists spot and I will share one where we went too that day on my next blog. So, don't forget to follow☺️.
Thank you so much for reading this far. I hope you enjoyed watching their garden, their plants as we walked through around it.
