Pitch Black
One of Vin Diesel's earlier films that seem to have helped launch his acting career. A space transport ship is taking a number of settlers to a new world, along with hardened criminal Vin whom is nicely locked up on board the ship. The transport being a "budget" priced transport is taking some of the back shipping lanes, plenty of time for things to go wrong.
During the voyage the ship encounters debris from the tail of a comet, causing a crash landing on a remote planet. This is where the fun begins, the planet has three suns for starters. They manage to find an abandoned mining post and a model of the local solar system. This model indicates that every 22 years ALL the suns are blocked by a moon and the planet then enters total darkness for a period of time.
There are of course some local creatures which only come out during the darkness, now the battle for survival and getting off the planet begins. The suspense is quite well done, and while there aren't any real surprises in terms of plot/storyline, it is still a good sci-fi movie and worth watching.
