Picnics, barbecues, swimming, hot dogs, apple pie, ice cream, bug repellent and fireworks. That sums up the 4th of July, doesn't it? Those are my childhood memories. It'll be here before you know it. Have you made plans yet? Do you celebrate our nation's independence differently now than you did growing up?
Now that my daughter has flown the coop and I no longer have my parents or other family nearby, our celebrations have changed. We (the hubs and me) switched it up last year and spent a weekend on Anna Maria Island on the west central coast of Florida. We threw the bicycles in the back of his truck and rented a quaint little apartment right off of the path to the beach. Sugar sand and crystal clear water. If you haven't visited this part of Florida, what are you waiting for?
Here are some photos taken at sunset (one day apart) in this magical place. The photos are simple iPhone photos. The sky at sunset gave me a beautiful American Flag to enjoy. Needless to say, I'll never forget this 4th of July on the beach.
Start making some plans. Take time to enjoy and look up. You may see the sky giving you a beautiful show.
