My House Girls group meets monthly to do projects at one another’s houses. It might be an organization project, painting a room, cleaning or gardening, for example.
Today we set out to pull up an overgrown garden. We got out the tools and distributed ourselves across the plot to start digging and pulling.
I guess I pulled the short straw because there was a beehive in the ground where I started digging. All of a sudden there was a terrible buzzing in my right ear. A bee had flown straight into my hair and gotten stuck. I brushed frantically to try to help it find it’s way out, but this was truly not the smartest bee, and it just could not figure out how to get out of my hair. A dumb bee that is also lost and pissed off is not a good combination.
Below you can see the garden before the project and two of the House Girls members -- my friend Jen on the right and my sister, @ducksaplenty on the left. And the saga continues...
Well, you guessed it. I got stung really hard on my right ear. Yow, a bee sting really hurts! That happened about 8 hours ago and it still hurts!
We did not realize that there was an entire underground hive right away. It was after we got some stuff to soothe my ear that we looked down and saw them swarming.
So we never did complete that part of the dig-out! As you can see in the next picture, there is a patch on the left side with some decorative grass. That is where the nest is.
The good news is that we were mostly able to avoid the bees, and I was the only one who got stung. And the other good news is that I got all of my steps by working out in the garden today. All in all, it was a good day.
Thanks for visiting!
