Stepping around Door County Wisconsin for my 30th wedding anniversary: October 18 2026

Hard to believe 30 years have come and gone since my wedding day! My husband and I are celebrating this fun milestone with a weekend get-away to a lovely corner of the earth called Door County.

It is a peninsula that extends northeast from Green Bay Wisconsin into Lake Michigan. The peninsula is lined with beautiful little communities along the bays.

For the last two nights we stayed in the town of Sister Bay where there was a massive fall festival going on, and now we are in another town called Egg Harbor.

Today we took a ferry boat from the very tip of the peninsula to an island called Washington Island where we spent the day. It was a gorgeous fall day!

We took a beautiful hike through some woods with golden light illuminating the fall leaves, then had lunch on a lavender farm. Here are some pics! Let’s start with the hike.

They have a lovely little outdoor restaurant and a beautiful store with many products made from the lavender they grow.

We visited a famous beach, called Schoolhouse Beach, where the rocks on the beach are white and polished smooth, and it is illegal to take them.

Here are a few pictures from the ferry.

We had a rather hilarious mishap because when we went back to the ferry to return to the peninsula, we were really early. I thought I had nearly an hour until the ferry was going to leave so I went back to the place where we took our nature walk earlier that day and walked the same trail. I returned with 10 minutes to go before the ferry was scheduled to leave but it took off early!

I watched as the boat with my husband on it started its journey across the bay. It turned out to be fine. The personnel believed me that I didn’t have a ticket because it was with my husband and they let me jump on the next one. So he just had to wait about 20 minutes on the other side.
