Hi friends. I’m traveling with my girls on the North Shore of Minnesota, in the beautiful town of Grand Marais, which sits right on the edge of Lake Superior.
It is about a five hour drive from home, so a good half a day was spent in the car. But we found a nice little rest stop once we got up past Duluth and it had a lovely walking trail! Plus once we got to Grand Marais, we checked into our accommodations and then walked along the shore and all over town.
I hope you enjoy my photo journal.
There is a beautiful rest area just five miles out of Grand Marais. The fall colors were gorgeous, as was the view of the lake.
Our long walk along the shore and out toward a Coast Guard lighthouse began at dusk, and ended when it was nearly dark!
The girls had fun skipping stones.
The reflections on the water were amazing.
I just loved the dramatic sky, rocky shoreline and crashing waves.
As you can see, night was falling!
Finally we walked back into the little town of Grand Marais for dinner. We found a charming tavern filled with local people enjoying locally brewed beer, fantastic food and live music by an astounding guitarist and singer.
I had an amazing avocado lime salad with seared ahi tuna and a glass of Sauvignon blanc. It was sensational.
The musician was incredibly talented. He played an enormous range, from Kenny Loggins to Willie Nelson (and sounded exactly like him) to Indigo Girls to David Bowie. When he sang Ground Control to Major Tom, it was with a British accent, and it was an amazing imitation!
That’s it for today. Tomorrow we will enjoy the shops and some hiking.
