While looking through the pictures on my phone during lunchtime, I came across a photo of my grandfather, Apolonio, whom we used to call "Lolo Onjoy." I really miss him so much.
When we were still young, every afternoon, as the sun was about to set, our grandfather would go to the beach to relax. Sadly, he is no longer with us today. But I will never forget his stories about his experiences when he was still young. He shared so many stories with us, and until now, those memories are still alive in my mind.
I still remember when I was in high school during our intramurals. I was chosen to represent our faction in the oration contest. My grandfather was the one who chose the topic and helped me prepare for the competition. Sadly, I did not win because I was so nervous. It was my first time joining an oration contest, and I was not really into public speaking at that time.
But now, I want to improve my public speaking skills because I want to share inspirational messages with other people. Looking back, I realize that even though I did not win that contest, my experience taught me something valuable.
I miss my grandfather so much. Whenever we had nothing else to do at home, we would go to his house and spend time talking with him while he played his guitar. He really loved playing the guitar. There were so many things I learned from him, and I will always be thankful for the time we spent together.
Even when he was already old, my grandfather never stopped learning. He loved reading the Bible and the dictionary. One thing he told me that I will never forget was:
"Education is a never-ending process."
Those words have stayed with me until today. They remind me that no matter how old we get, there is always something new to learn in life.
By the way, my grandfather was also a former captain in the Air Force. Sadly, he left the service before we had the chance to see him serving as a captain.
I may not be able to spend time with him anymore, but the lessons, and memories, he shared with us will always remain in my heart. I am proud to have had a grandfather like him.
Some people may no longer be with us, but the lessons they leave behind will live in our hearts forever.
Oh by the way, my grandfather and I really have the same face. You can't deny that we're related😄
Thank you dear hivers for taking the time to read. Until my next blog!
