Pungko-Pungko is a famous street food experience in Cebu. The word "pungko" means to squat or sit low. It is called Pungko-Pungko because, in the past, people usually ate along the streets while sitting on low chairs or squatting.

Pungko-Pungko is very popular in Cebu, especially among students, because the food is very affordable. It is perfect for students who have a small daily allowance. The food is also covered to keep it clean.

Here are some of the foods you can find at Pungko-Pungko:

• Ginabot – Deep-fried pork intestines

• Puso – Rice wrapped in woven coconut leaves

• Bulaklak – Crispy fried pork intestines

• Skinless – Skinless sausage

• Bola-Bola – Fried meatballs

• Lumpia – Fried spring rolls filled with bean sprouts

• Chorizo – Filipino-style sausage

• Fried Chicken

• And many more!

Yesterday, I happened to pass by a Pungko-Pungko food stall, so I decided to stop and enjoy some of my favorite street foods. It brought back wonderful memories of my student days and reminded me why I love this affordable Cebuano food!

My favorite is Ginabot! It tastes so good, especially when you dip it in spicy vinegar with lots of onions. The combination is just perfect! At first, it might not look very appetizing, but once you taste it, you will understand why many Cebuanos love it.

I still remember when I was a student at the University of Cebu. There was a famous Pungko-Pungko near our school, especially beside the school and near the Kalubihan entrance. It was one of the popular places where students would eat because the food was delicious and affordable.

Pungko-Pungko is not just about eating affordable food. It is also part of our Cebuano culture and brings back many happy memories, especially from our student days.

So, if you ever visit Cebu, don't forget to try Pungko-Pungko! It is one of the local food experiences you should not miss. You can enjoy delicious and affordable food while experiencing a small part of Cebuano culture. Who knows? You might even fall in love with Ginabot just like I did!

How about you, dear Hivers? Have you tried Pungko-Pungko?

P.S. Just a friendly reminder! Some of these foods are deep-fried and high in fat, so they may not be the best choice for older adults or people with high cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is better to enjoy them only once in a while and in moderation. After all, taking care of our health is important too!
