From Stress to Strength: My Daily Habits for Mental & Physical Health
Assalam-o-Alaikum and hello to my #Weekendexperiences community. Welcome to another blog. Here I am writing for week 297 of Weekend Experiences community contest. I will go for the topic How Do You Keep Yourself Healthy, Mentally And Physically?.
I am going to share some simple daily habits that have helped me stay healthy both mentally and physically. Remaining healthy mentally and physically is not rocket science. People have made it very difficult and complex. That’s why most of us feel that it is a very difficult job. In today’s busy life, we focus only on earning money and maintaining our status, but we forget to give time to ourselves and focus on our health, which is the most important thing for us. Because career, money, wealth, status, family, etc., are nothing without good health. Being healthy should be our first and foremost priority in life. Everything else is secondary.
Here are a few steps that I follow on a daily basis to remain healthy mentally and physically:
How I Stay Healthy Mentally
I get up early in the morning and offer Fajr prayer. (We Muslims offer prayers five times a day.)
I walk for almost half an hour on a daily basis to reduce stress and anxiety.
I spend some quality time with my family, especially with my two daughters and a son. Believe me, spending time with children gives me mental peace, and I feel relaxed and joyful. It has become my permanent activity now.
I am a lover of reciting Naat Sharif. (We Muslims praise our beloved Holy Prophet PBUH in a Naat Sharif.) I recite Naat Sharif, which gives me mental peace, and I feel relaxed because reciting Naat is my passion. I feel mental satisfaction when I recite Naat Sharif.
I have reduced the time I spend on social media like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc. Reducing screen time has given me mental calmness.
I have downloaded an app called Islam 360 for reading the Holy Quran. I am reading the Holy Quran through this app with translation. Believe me, it has reduced my stress and anxiety and given me mental satisfaction.
How I Stay Physically Healthy
I sleep for 8 to 9 hours. You will be astonished to hear that I don’t remember when I last slept for less than 7 or 8 hours. I have kept things simple. I go to bed early and rise early. But for good sleep, your body should be seriously fatigued. Before going to bed, you should leave your phone at least one hour earlier. You should eat your dinner at least 4 hours before sleeping. Don’t take tea or coffee at least two or three hours before going to bed. I am acting upon these things and getting good sleep. Good sleep means your body is fully charged for the next day.
I walk for almost half an hour on a daily basis. I play volleyball for at least half an hour in the evening. So, I do physical activities on a regular basis, and it keeps my body healthy and active.
I drink more than three liters of water in a day. If you want to drink more water, you should keep water beside your bed and carry water with you. It will remind you that you have to drink water. Drinking more water keeps you hydrated, and you stay physically fit and active.
I avoid junk food. I avoid all types of packaged food. I avoid all types of colas, energy drinks, etc. I take simple food. I take a diet that has enough protein, like boiled eggs in my meals. I take yogurt in my breakfast, eat dates, dry fruits, and take vegetables and meat.
Final Thoughts
Mental and physical health are interconnected. When we are physically healthy, our mind also works well. When our mind becomes calm, our body gets active. A healthy body has a healthy mind. We should take simple but consistent steps to improve our health. So don’t wait—start from today. No tomorrow.
