Family support is something that not all people belonging to the LGBTQI+ community have, that's why the term 'chosen family' arises, and it's nothing more than the friends and even partners that we get to choose as a family because they represent what family should always have been because many times the biased view they have of the world impedes to continue loving someone even when this someone is a member of your family, but the simple fact that he/she is different from you is something unheard of and you can't love him/her more.

Yesterday I finally talked to my sister, although it was more what I cried than what I said, and she ended up talking more than me, but none of that matters, because regardless of the outcome it was something I wanted and had to do; in doing so I fulfilled one of the points I had established during the first session with the psychologist: to communicate to my family my truth, my feelings, and my being, and although I still do not talk to my parents or the rest of my siblings, I already took the first step, I talked to who I felt more comfortable with and who would make everything easier, in a sense.

I still don't think I told her everything, not even that I told her my new name, I still don't process it, I still don't assimilate it, and even though everything went well, better than I would have expected or imagined, here I still want to cry remembering that conversation, it was at night, and even though the relief I feel is huge, it seems that my feelings are numb, that my feelings have gone to sleep due to the pressure and stress I was subjected to in that conversation.

One of the things she told me was that she had wanted to talk to me for many years, but that she had respected the fact that I was the one who should want to talk to her, because I was the one who had many things to communicate, and that the simple fact that she started to ask me questions and interrogate me about things I was not prepared to share was going to cause the opposite effect and I was going to close myself more with everyone around me.

I agreed with her because if any other person in my family had started asking me questions I would have reacted negatively and nothing good would have come out of it, but with her, everything would have been different, but I still appreciate the fact that she waited, that even though she wanted to help me, wanted to have thousands of conversations with me, that should have come from me and not force me to do anything.

She raised me since I was born, and she was only 15 years old, she should never have done that, more than siblings we are mother and son, and that word reminds me of something she told me that made me laugh, when I told her that I am non-binary she told me that she had heard that term before because Karina has a child who is also non-binary, but it makes me laugh because while she was telling me that she corrected herself many times saying 'well, she has a son, or daughter, or son who is like that too', I held my laughter and I told her that she has a child (hije in Spanish), and her anxiety diminished, because I know she was trying to say things the right way and not offend me by saying something she shouldn't have.

That leads me to say that I feel more like crying when I remember that from that moment she started using neutral terms to refer to me, her speech changed completely when I explained to her that I am not a man, nor a woman, that I am someone who simply does not fit in any of those two categories, that I was wrong for many trying to be something I was not, because I did not even know that I could be something else, that I was one of the people who used inclusive language and neutral language, so to speak, and that she got the idea the first time and the way of referring to me changed at that very moment surprises me, and that only confirms that when someone really loves you and truly loves you, it is not difficult at all for them to adapt to the correct way of referring to you because they know how much it means and the infinite help that represents.

I know that many uncomfortable and incorrect questions were going to be asked, and she asked me the first one, I almost reacted with violence and in a defensive way, but I knew that she was just trying to understand me and she did not do it with bad intentions, because she assumed that the fact that I am non-binary is due to the diagnosis of the psychologist or psychiatrist, and I kind of wanted to slap her, at this moment I am laughing, but yesterday was not like that, really, I almost hit her with my foot to knock her off the bed.

I explained to her that being non-binary is not a psychological or psychiatric diagnosis, that no one can tell anyone if they are non-binary, female, male, gender fluid, and all the other gender identities, that is something that unfortunately is discovered alone and without any help, that for many people is a very traumatic process because there is no one to talk to, It was only at that age that I was able to identify myself with something, I was able to read about something that described me and that made me feel good, because the simple fact that they wanted me to be a man made me sick, and I am coming out of that illness that I suffered for many years.

I know one must educate the family, but fuck, I don't want to, a single conversation made my whole body ache the next day as if I had fallen down a three-story staircase and someone had kicked me so that even falling, I don't even know how I managed to write all that, because the lack of energy I have is giant, and although I feel a thousand times lighter, I feel I must get used to this and learn again to stop feeling as I have been doing all these years.

I was able to talk to my sister, I was able to tell her everything, and this makes me remember again another moment where she thought that I was only going to tell her that I was gay, and in tears, I laughed and told her that it was not only that what I wanted to tell her, that there were several other things, and after telling her and talking about it she agreed with me, that she understood why it had cost me so much, but that none of that was going to change the love she feels for me, and that she knew how difficult it was, because telling this to the rest of the world is easy, but with the family, it is more difficult than anyone can imagine.

This conversation with my sister is the first step of turning my family into what it always should have been, a place of refuge, support, understanding, and love, but that many things in the past did not allow me to find all this in them, and maybe now is the right time, but little by little, I still do not recover from that conversation, let's calm down, do not rush me that I am rushing without anyone's help.
