When we talk about mental health you matter, but you are not the only one who matters. And I say this because most of the messages you will see about mental health go in this direction: take care of yourself, think about yourself, dedicate time to yourself.
Although all this contributes to your mental health I want to talk about something a little more uncomfortable... Without the other, without protective environments it is very difficult to have good mental health... That is, we also need the support of those people who care.
But the position of waiting for others to take care of us is more comfortable than that of taking care of others. Let's think about mothers, grandmothers, fathers and people who take care of children, teenagers, older adults...
These people are key to protecting the mental health of those who are most vulnerable, and usually no one thinks about how they feel.
We are left with the idea that these “super-caregivers” can handle everything, that nothing affects them. But, I promise you that they are burdened, they suffer and many times they can't even express it. That is why today the invitation is to look beyond ourselves, that is, to think that to have good mental health the environment matters. And with this, I do not want to deny in any way that the environment influences our possibilities, because it does. But there are many times when what hurts the most is not an objective fact, but the need to feel accompanied.
Taking a step happens first because you are willing to take it... Then the journey will surely take many turns, but without that decision nothing else will happen. Take care of yourself, but without forgetting the important thing of taking care of the other, especially those who take care…
Recently, I did a race at this point in my life, and especially in recent months, it represents a gigantic challenge due to the lack of accumulated kilometers and time to invest in myself. Lately there is almost no space for friends, for my tastes or rest; there is only to attend to the urgent, fulfill old commitments or seek to recompose myself personally and professionally, especially after 06/24, the earthquake in my country Venezuela. But that doesn't mean that I've completely abandoned myself or that I don't want to try as many times as necessary to return to being the one from before, or to return to that version of me from a few years ago from these struggles. Although, to be even more honest, physically I will not be at my best today, but emotionally and humanly, I am certainly much better today than yesterday.
That's why that wise phrase comes to mind: “Everything has its moment.”
Maybe these are the days to exercise more that beautiful and deep muscle that is the heart is like spirit. And yes, I had a lot of fun! Catching the joy and euphoria that are born from the passion for running, partying and well-being is the ultimate. Any motivation is valid when it comes to cultivating happy moments that stay forever in the memory.
Running goes far beyond physical exertion; it is a contemplative practice that trains the mind, heals the emotions and strengthens the soul. When the will is tested by running, we cultivate a clear purpose that transcends the goal. It shows us that we are capable of overcoming fatigue, embracing our abilities and transforming discipline into self-love.
Being constant in the midst of adversity makes us better people: more empathetic, resilient, aware and considerate. Even if sometimes I can't handle everything... That's why it's always good to take care of the one who takes care.
