Rights Versus Obligations and Daily Photos
Hello friends,
I hope your Sunday is splendid thus far.
Yesterday, while I was sitting on the boardwalk here in Vietnam, I was scrolling through the old book of faces (Facebook). I came across a post with a perfect quote that got me thinking. I do wish I saved that particular post, but I didn't so bear with me when I paraphrase.
It was a quote about the difference between Eastern and Western minds. Being that I'm living here in Vietnam, but come from US, I can understand the thinking and logic on both sides of the fence.
The quote stated, the difference between thinking that you have the right to do something, or that you have an obligation to do something. Namely, people in the West, tend to have the " This is my right" mindset, whereas people predominantly in the East, have a "this is my obligation" mindset. I can really see that and how both of these different mindsets, lead to the issues that both countries suffer from.
With the mindset of, this is my right, you automatically place yourself above someone else, you ingrain a philosophy of everything is yours, as it's your right to do it or have it. I.e., " It is my right not to wear a mask in public". true, but still... :/
With the mindset of, I have an obligation, you automatically place yourself in more of a community mindset, you ingrain a philosophy of rising up to meet the obligations you are given. I.e., " I have an obligation to wear a mask in public, to protect the surrounding people".
These two mindsets separately have their pros and cons, but I think more pros go into the, "I have an obligation" mindset. This fundamentally "should" give you motivation to rise up to meet your obligations, and not just assume you have the right to anything and everything you want.
What are your thoughts?
- You subscribe to the, it is my right to do this mindset, or I have an obligation to do it mindset?
Well rambling begone, let's jump to the photos.
The Daily Photos
If you follow my posts, you know I like to do that daily sunrise walk,. getting outside before 6 AM, seeing the sunrise... Hmmm hmmm good.
One more photo of the sun coming up... lol
and one more photo of the sun... But this time, its a flower!
that flower was next to this little tiny babbling brook...
and I lied to you... More sunrise photos. BAWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
AND MORE sunrise photos HAHAHAHAHAHAA, that's all there is sunrise photos, more and more sunrise photos, that's all you'll ever get.
okay I lied to you again... This is not a sunrise photo...
this is not a sunrise photo also... I'm not sure how the water was captured like that but it looks almost fake.
the sidewalks here sometimes get overgrown with these natural things, the green, its does consume everything.
and for the last photo today, my coffee mug. This mug is actually made from pressed coffee grinds, have been using for a while, I like the idea of drinking coffee from the grinds of the coffee... It's like an Aztec priest drinking the ceremonial blood wine from skull of the victim...
Another day another post and, another expression of gratitude for you coming here, to enjoy some time together. I think you.
Have a great day my friends and come back tomorrow for some more photos, and stragne thoughts, and side tangents about IDK...
Love~
