As mentioned in yesterday's post I was actually on my way to the Point Waterfront in Durban, when I got side-tracked by a massive ship in Durban Harbor.
I've heard and read about the canals in the Point Waterfront where you can enjoy nice, relaxing boat rides. The idea was to go out and explore to see what it looks like and to find out exactly where to go.
Talking about boats here, I just need to mention, I am referring to small paddle boats, "gondola" type boats, and also bigger boats that, as far as I know, can take up to 8 people. But all of these are for real slow, relaxing cruises, exploring the Point Waterfront, cruising on the canals running through the waterfront.
So, although we ended up at the harbor on Sunday, we still managed to at least find the canals with their boats.
While taking photos at the harbor though, my camera's battery died.
We were pleasantly surprised with what we found when we arrived at the departure point for the boat rides on the canals. But, I had to resort back to my cell phone camera for taking some photos.
It was easy to find the canals as we have seen them during previous visits to the Point Waterfront. But we wanted to find the boats.
We found parking close to the canal and took a walk to the canal.
Where we entered, it was neat and well maintained and we spotted one of the paddle boats on the water.
We went closer as the paddle boat was paddling away. We got to the edge of the water and next to us was a young couple with a little toddler of about 3-years old.
We all saw a school of tiny fish not to far away from us.
The father of the toddler kneeled down and wiggled his hand in the water. It seemed like he was successful in making the fish curious as they came closer and also closer to the surface.
But the next moment, a Hammerhead shark of about a meter long appeared just below the surface behind them.
Withing a split second the school of fish just disappeared into the deep with the shark following behind them.
This all happened within a matter of seconds. When I saw the shark I got my phone up and wanted to take a photo, but they were all gone again...lol.
As we looked up, one of the little "gondola" type boats came casually cruising by in the main canal.
Moving towards the main canal, we saw how the boat was cruising peacefully towards some of the apartment buildings that can be found in the Waterfront.
We turned around and followed the canal in the direction of where the boat came from and we found the "docking" area if you can call it that.
This is where you can rent a little paddle boat to go on a little cruise of your own for either 30 minutes or 1 hour (one of the gondola boats can also be seen in the background). Apparently the "gondola" boats and the bigger "motorized" boats can be booked in advance.
The paddle boats neatly lined up. One of the bigger "motorized" boats can be seen to the left.
With some more gondola boats on the side.
Some canal traffic...
All along the canals they have nice walk ways where you can go for a nice walk of you don't feel like taking a cruise on the canal.
On our way out, we drove past Durban Harbor's new passenger terminal, and I took the the next two photos of it.
And that's it for today, folks.
Thank you for reading my post. I do appreciate it!
