Outside the house the breeze is cold like every December and I can see people a little sad and tired, some years ago things were different but after that unfortunate event, the smile on people's faces disappeared and in its place go the expressionless faces and yet some tears roll down their cheeks.
I was at home playing with my favorite truck back then, mom was preparing dinner and we were waiting for dad like every night, I was anxious to see him, he worked 12 hours and I only had a few hours before he went to sleep, to be with him. I always missed him so much, but that night it was getting late and dad wasn't coming home. I went outside the house to watch him arrive, but at that moment some men covered in black came into the house and took my mother away. I cried, screamed and called for mom, but they wouldn't let her go.
In tears I watched as the same men took people away, no one understood why and suddenly everyone's crying started to become a stunned noise. Mom always told me to wait in the place where she had left me, so I didn't move from there all night, I was cold and very afraid, but I really hoped she would come back for me as she always did, but this time she didn't, she didn't come back.
I didn't know what to do, I was lost without my parents, but I thought mom would feel good if I helped her with breakfast, I was hungry, so I went inside the house and prepared a sandwich for each of us. I ate mine and after a few minutes I burst into tears, after that moment the days were almost the same, I had to survive so I would go out looking for food and after realizing I was alone, crying would accompany me until I fell asleep.
I never stopped missing them, I never stopped thinking about them, but I learned to live with that pain just like everyone else whose loved ones had been taken away. I got a job and went back to school, but what I remembered no longer existed, people had moved on with their lives, but inside each one of them there was so much pain. School ended and I tried to concentrate on something that could help others, maybe it was impossible at the time, but I vowed that I would find the people who had taken our families and get answers.
It took a few years, but I succeeded, a specially trained group was in charge of finding people with special abilities to solve the problems afflicting humanity. I didn't know it, but mom and dad were geniuses, with an IQ much higher than average, they knew it and that's why they came for them. In the city many like them, were kept hidden with their families, they knew that if they didn't they would be forcibly taken to a secret place, it was a sacrifice that would cause pain to them and their family, but could save the rest of the world.
The pain inside me suddenly disappeared and the certainty that they were still alive flooded my mind. I did not say anything to anyone and I made an effort to get to that place, when I did I saw that it was a huge place, these people were superior in intelligence, but those who kept them prisoners were superior in strength, so with no other options, they did what they could to protect the home of those they loved and missed so much.
Without fear and with the only objective of receiving a hug from my parents, I entered that place flying the security and when I had them in front of me there was no need to say a word, years had passed but they recognized me, so I let out some tears of joy and hugged them. They soon realized what was happening and wanted to get me out of there. However, I would not lose my parents again, I resisted as long as I could and although I put my life at risk, with some ingenuity the guns were deactivated and everyone was able to flee.
Mom, Dad and I had to move far away, we knew that this would not stop them and that they would probably want to come looking for them, so we moved to a distant town away from the technology, it was a small sacrifice to make, but it was worth it to be together. I formed my own family close to them and mom and dad got to meet my children and spend time with them in their childhood, just as I would have wanted to do.
