I miss the summer nights
spent out under the stars
in nothing more than a T-shirt
and warm blue jeans

now it’s cold and I can’t
find any time to get
all my winter clothes on and look
up at those stars

here I’ll wait in the light
inside some small house
built decades ago by a man
who lived alone

he never wanted to
leave his nest and see those
beautiful stars just overhead
’til he was naught

but I long for those stars
in the black sky above
sparkling lamps of lambent hope
all carried away

by the wind's soft voice
