Stars
I was thinking last night as I flew home,
all these lights from the street below
seem so similar to the stars above;
tiny beacons from where I sat.
the horizon; the smooth surface of a mirror,
reflecting everything we have always known
into everything we have accomplished.
each point, cutting through the darkness in the cities beneath,
an echo away from each in the dark night sky
Heartbeats
and I noticed something else too:
the traffic flowing at a steady pace,
down each highway; each vein,
the people; the life and blood of the city,
every building was an organ
and every motion was fluid and constant.
when you’re at a distance like that, you see the world
how people imagined it,
without the cracks in the paint
