Hello friends. I still owe all of my Wednesday Walk friends a completion to my Washington D.C. series. Hopefully that will happen next week.
Today though, I explored downtown Denver, Colorado and I wanted to use these photos while they were still fresh in my thoughts.
I have only ever visited Denver for business trips. Many conferences and company visits have brought me here over the years. I've been really lucky that I've always been in Denver with pretty good weather - and today was about as perfect a day as you can get. The temperature was in the mid to upper 70s (about 22 C) as I explored in the late afternoon and early evening.
I am staying at a hotel about a half mile away from Union Station. I arrived in town yesterday by plane. I have found that the easiest way to get downtown from the airport is to take the train which is an easy 25 minute ride to Union Station downtown. I didn't grab a photo of Union Station last night, but did grab one tonight.
It is a really beautiful location with lots of fun little shoppes inside.
I walked from my hotel to right near Union Station en route to one of my favorite destinations in the city - well sort of. I adore bookstores and Tattered Cover bookstores are a uniquely Denver bookstore experience. Unfortunately, the big store that I remember from my last visit has closed. That said, I still visited a lovely location right next to Coors Field.

One of the things that impresses me about Denver is how many flowers decorate areas of the city. Here are a few pretty flowers decorating this "urban jungle".
The wind was really catching this one - it was so pretty.
I also love the blend of old and new construction in Denver.
This building houses something called "Urban Putt" in that main archway (the side closest to camera is for sale/lease but part of the building is occupied by Urban Putt.) I looked them up after I got back to my hotel tonight and I may go grab dinner here one evening during my visit and take in a little indoor putt-putt golf!
One of the most fun discoveries as I was out on this walk was the Equitable Building. The Equitable Life Insurance Company is the company my grandpa worked for for most of his adult life. He received many awards and accolades as an insurance agent and it provided a very good life for my dad. The building was the tallest in Denver when it was built in 1890. It cost $1.75M and was the western headquarters of Equitable Insurance. I especially loved learning that Mary Lathrop who was one of the first two women admitted to the American Bar Association and was the first woman to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court had offices in the building throughout her career.
