Yes, they are. And the language is C, considered the master of them all. Windows is written in C, MacOs uses Unix which is written in C, Linux is also written in C. Python programming language is written in C. Java virtual machine is written in C. Microsoft Dot Net and SQL Server is written in C. C++ in the beginning was C with classes before it separated. Even C is written in C, Dennis Ritchie (the creator of C) first created the base using assembler then he continued the development of C with it self.
