Respect is not fear
I have had some casual talks about different subjects with quite a few people, what I found out has a statistical significance.
People seem to associate RESPECT with FEAR. Whenever I talk about who do you respect, why do you respect them, with people, they almost always respect people they fear, people they are not comfortable with, and can’t have a close relation with. When I say that respect is not fear but admiration, all those faces turn to: What the hell are you talking about expression.
I can only imagine that early experiences as a child molded this concept into their heads. As a side note, a good experiment is to try and define words about abstract concepts and see how different your definitions are, or not, only the experiment will tell.
With this broken understanding about different words, people begin to worship the wrong authorities. The one that inflicts pain, abuses people is “RESPECTED” the one that rules, the same. They don’t have to achieve something good and worthy in the world to earn that from people. On the other hand, the architect that builds you an awesome house, the medic that cures you of disease and the gardener that plants your favorite flowers by your bedroom window get no respect with this mindset, because you don’t fear them.
Challenge yourself to make someone understand that they shouldn’t respect people that hurt them and only those who love them, the ones that bring happiness and prosperity through their work and not those who steal and destroy it.
