Most of my recent friends work with the Nigerian Breweries, therefore, I get to listen to work conversations surrounding drinks especially beer a lot. Those conversations might be quite interesting, but the most astounding ones are usually those that have to do with their drinking habit.

The story has it that if any one of them is caught drinking any drink other than a product of the Nigerian Breweries, they will be out of work. It was funny because the first time, I went out with one of them and I wanted to order Origin Beer, he stopped me in my tracks.

Now, being a third party on this Taraba Trip where they were doing moping up ad enumeration, something funny occurred. One of those nights, they decided to party while celebrating the end of the process. We got there, and we were asked to place an order.

I wanted Origin Beer, and my partner already told me right before we left our hotels rooms, that I shouldn't dare order for Origin Beer. I tried arguing that I wouldn't want any other drink, he wasn't having it. He told me to order for Star Radler. I laughed hard. I told him outrightly, that Star Radler is a drink for babies, and I am no baby.

Oh wow, then, order for Desperado, he said. I wanted to argue again, because the last time, I tasted that drink, I don't remember if I liked it. Well, to cut the long story short, I accepted to have Desperado for the night. Determined to love it regardless of how much I crave my favorite beer, Origin.

Now, you wouldn't believe that a large percentage of the Nigerian Breweries Staff present at that table wanted other drinks that weren't my country's brand..... Hehehehe... I heard up to 4 people asking for Origin Beer. And their bosses cautions them while asking the waiter to return the drinks politely.

The staff went ahead and ordered other drinks like Star Beer, Gulder Beer, Legend Extra Stout, Heineken Beer, Climax, Goldberg lager, etc.

From that night on, I decided, if I am ever in the company of these folks, I'll take Desperado, and my reason is that I fell in love with that drink. It just hasn't replaced my Origin, though.

Last night, as the final meeting, and closing celebration kicked, I brought the memory of my Taraba journey to a stop by drinking Desperado again. Yes, my heart has been won over... Kudos to Nigerian Breweries.

The positive part about having Desperado is that I noticed I didn't have hangovers in the morning, nor did I have a running stomach.

PS: This week of #BeerSaturday, I like to invite ijohnsen@ijohnsen to write a post about beer with a minimum of 3 pics in his language. 😊. Here is the link to the post description
