My Experience in Farming

I want to share my experience as a farmer for several years. For to be a farmer, I am using a Hydroponic System for every kind of vegetable or plant that I cultivated. Hydroponic System is how to plant using water as a planting medium.

This System is suitable for urban farming because it does not need large tracts of land and labor time high but if you want to earn more you have to choose the type of plant that has a high price and it is not difficult to be developed but still not a lot of plant by other farmers.

Mint Leaves

One type of plant that is always there in the installation of hydroponic and I also always make money for me right now is mint leaves. Mint leaves are one of the types of plants that have a characteristic odor, aroma, and flavor that are very strong. So if you use mint leaves in a portion of food, beverage or other product can greatly affect the product. An example of one customer I had a business of Ice Cream and he use mint leaves to make the ice cream into the menthol flavor. There are also a few coffee shops that use mint leaves to drink coffee or tea.

Mint leaves are one of the very profitable plants. We don't need to do the planting reset time after the harvest, because the plant will sprout and bring up the leaves again. If we do harvest correctly then the mint leaves will grow continuously.

How Much I Get with Mint Leaves?

In economic terms, Every day I harvested about 250-350 grams of mint leaves. Then the leaves of the mint will I pack in as much as 20 grams per pack. One pack I can sell with the price of IDR 5000,- (0.35 USD), every day I usually got the order of 10-15 pack sometimes there is also a message to me up to 1 kg. If the message is that much, I would sell with the price of IDR 200000,- (13.5 USD). The breakfast is not for one plant product and does not use land that is too much. Every month I usually get about IDR 1.000.000,- (USD 65).

Marketing

I am selling a mint leaf in a variety of ways. The first way, I sell is by using a marketplace like Tokopedia, Shoppe, and Facebook. This way the buyer sometimes benefited from various cashback or free postage from the provider in the marketplace. Almost 75% of my sales are from the marketplace. The second way, I use a friendship of mine who works as a barista in a variety of coffee shops.

One of the reasons why I started planting mint leaves was when some of my friends who have a business in the field of food and beverage complained about the difficulty of being mint leaves fresh because usually mint leaves are sold in supermarkets has been harvested from a few days ago and many of the leaves are wilting.

I catch the complaints of my friends about a business opportunity and began to develop the mint leaves at the beginning of 2020. I always make mint leaves fresh. The procedure of my work is a mint leaves will be harvested when there is an order, that keeps the quality of mint leaves remain fresh and do not wither.
