Colcafé to Sweeten the Afternoon
If it weren’t for afternoon snacks, our afternoons would feel a bit empty, and what better way to enjoy these hours than by sipping a nice cup of coffee with milk, accompanied by some cookies and listening to a good radio station.
But this time, I didn’t opt for the traditional pour-over method, nor did I want to use the coffee maker, since I’d had several packets of my favorite Colombian coffee, Colcafé Suave, stashed away for several days. It’s a truly exceptional drink, as it perfectly balances great flavor, a wonderful aroma, and very easy preparation.
This brand of coffee comes in several varieties; some have a hint of flavor, others come with milk included, but this time I only had the most traditional single-serve packet, so I didn’t fuss and just made it that way, but since I wanted it with milk, I ran to grab a packet of Los Andes milk, and that’s how I brought to life one of those unique characteristics of the Colombian-Venezuelan border—using products from both countries to create a coffee that seemed crafted by the gods of Olympus.
You all know me by now, and in my house, cups of coffee aren’t served on their own—they’re always accompanied by a dessert, a snack, or, in this case, a soda cracker. I love that combination of sweet and salty; from a culinary standpoint, it’s delicious, but beyond that, we’re also talking about traditions and customs, since for those of us born in this country, this could easily be considered a traditional dish.
From childhood, we began drinking coffee, waking up to its aroma and sharing in its flavor. This drink was by our side as we watched cartoons and animated shows; it accompanies us during endless nights of studying, helps ease the tension of work meetings, and serves as the main beverage at friendly and social gatherings.
Today, there are heated disputes over who has the best coffee in the world, and, to tell the truth, it’s quite a contentious issue, but to me, it’s clear that coffee is a purely social drink; therefore, a society characterized by being so changeable and dynamic will always find different tastes in each individual, so getting caught up in these endless debates seems like a waste of time to me; personally, I believe the most important thing is for everyone to find their favorite coffee, enjoy it to the fullest, and savor every sip.
