Have you heard of a disease that gets cured if a woman gives birth? No? Read this!
People get pregnant then get married. That's how it is today and in the recent years. I do have a girlfriend. No, she's not pregnant. Marriage would have to definitely come first!
Here's the fun part.
Around 5 years ago, we were still in college, my girlfriend began experiencing painful menstrual periods. I thought it was normal to have cramping pains but she experienced it on every cycle. I told her to visit a doctor. Nagged her! It took around a year to get her an appointment with the doctor.
Long story short, ultrasound results revealed that she had endometriosis and adenomyosis. Both this conditions affect fertility and the risk of being infertile rises as she ages. Since I don't have time to explain these conditions in a freewrite, I promise to tackle it in a health blog sometime this month.
Another "long story short", she was given oral medications and advised to get married in 2-3 years for the purpose of getting pregnant ASAP. (We're now at 4 years and counting.) After 2 years of taking her meds, ultrasound results noted that the endometriosis was significantly gone but it may recur anytime.
The latest check-up my girlfriend had was around 3 months ago. The doctor noticed that the adenomyosis was getting bigger. Again, we were advised to get married and have kids as soon as possible.
So here I am, a man in his mid-twenties, still a full-time graduate student. As much as I would love to settle down and have kids, I do not want to give up on my dream. (18 more months to graduation!) But the longer I delay having children, the higher the risk of not getting one. I want to think that I'm ready, but the truth is I'm not.
Raising children is no joke.
She's having another ultrasound this weekend. By then, I might just have to make a decision. Oh, by the way, I'M NOT LEAVING HER! That is NEVER an option! Here's to family, love and, prosperity. May the odds be ever in my favor!
