An Outsider Look at Discord

Apparently, there is a large number of discord servers on which people discuss the governance and development of the HIVE blockchain. Since these servers play an important role in the HIVE ecosystem, I decided to compile a list of Hive Related discord servers on Internet Rivers .

So far the list of discord servers includes Hive Discord (it didn't let me in), Hive Dev, HiveWatchers, Hive Downvote Rewards, Freeze Peach, Proof of Brain, Broad Hive, MemeHive and The Terminal.

Please drop a comment if you wish to include other HIVE related discord servers. Come to think of it, I will be will to add Steem or Blurt discord related servers as well. I am not that judgemental.

History of Discord

Discord is a instant messaging service developed by Hammer & Chisel, Inc in 2015. The platform was developed by gamers who wanted a mechanism that would allow groups to coordinate attack strategies in multiplayer games.

I was was developing VOIP and chat applications in the 1990s. There is nothing impressive about the tech. I dislike discord because it was specifically designed by people seeking to game system.

Hive Governance and Discord

I admit, I've never liked the fact that much of the governance of HIVE is determined on discord servers. Since HIVE bills itself as an experiment in distributed governance, I believe that discussions about governance should take place on HIVE where the discussion is more transparent.

For example, this account is being targeted by @spaminator . To get off the list, I am supposed to go to the HiveWatchers discord and supplicate myself.

Sorry, I don't do that.

I really liked the @cheetah service. That service was dead on. It always included a link when it discovered people plagiarizing text and images. The service accepted appeals on HIVE. @cheetah was a great example of disbruted governance.

As I recall, one could appeal a @cheetah downvote by responding to the cheetah message. Cheetah used the transparent communication devices on Steem to address system abuse. It was a beautiful example of distributed governance.

If the governance of HIVE is determined on Discord servers, then it is necessary for people who participate on HIVE to track the discord servers. If you drop a link to any public discord server, I will add it to my list.

Here is a picture of a playground fort I photographed recently.
