In an old washbasin...
In an old washbasin, I planted flowers for you... so goes the song Lo feo (The Ugly), by Teresita Fern谩ndez, sung by many performers.
I remembered this song when I saw these green and violet clovers that my mother has planted in old pots.
The green one is beautiful, a small plant, recognizable by its creeping stems and three bright green leaves, each heart-shaped with a faint pale mark. I thought this was the flower itself, due to its peculiar design.
In the plant world, each one has its mission or use, some more than others, but each with its own importance.
Clover is a legume that enriches the soil by fixing nitrogen through its roots. Its most celebrated property is symbolic; since the Celts, its three leaves have represented the unity and balance of the natural elements, the perfect representation of earth, sea, and sky.
It is the emblem of Ireland and a universal good luck charm, where finding one spontaneously is considered a positive omen.
They caught my attention because of their flowers; I didn't think they would grow back after the rooster and hen ate them down to the roots. They were gifts from my sister, and in this humidity, they grow wonderfully.
The three-leaf clover, the most well-known, is an intense green; however, the violet one is just as beautiful.
The purple variant is said to be a false clover because it shares the trifoliate shape but displays purple, burgundy, or violet tones, with a sometimes lighter underside. This coloration, besides its ornamental value, seems to protect it from intense sunlight. Its properties are more associated with the spiritual and mystical sphere.
Purple, the traditional color of royalty and magic, infuses this clover with an aura of wisdom, transformation, and connection with the divine. It is attributed calming properties and is said to attract positive energy and creativity. Both versions, in their triad of leaves, embody harmony and perfect unity.
And I don't know if it's because we wouldn't think to plant in new pots, but old pots are like a magical home. I remember the cape jasmine my mother had among the sheets, a flower with leaves under a broken glass, and there grew the most beautiful and fragrant of Cuban flowers.
The clover has become the focus of her care and the fruit of her generous hands, and they show their gratitude by looking this spectacular amidst the ugly.
I give you the song...
