La primera vez que vi la nieve, a mis 38 años, no podía entender mi gozo; era una especie de anhelo con rareza que tarda en acomodar todas las emociones que se han acumulado en libros, postales, fotografías e historias.
Creo que la Navidad es de color blanco, no solo porque blanco es el color de la nieve sino porque los colores y su papel en la simbología del entorno son parte de nuestro estado de conciencia, y para mí el blanco es la pureza y la limpia intención del hombre.

Ayer se celebró a la Santísima Concepción de la Virgen, y por ella y su acto divino de concebir a un hombre que marcó épocas y nos invita a reevaluar nuestras acciones con fe y amor, es que se celebra la Navidad y esta época del año toma un sentido especial.
Nací en la fe cristiana y en mi niñez no sabía explicarme ciertas cosas sobre estas fechas y su significación para la humanidad. El nacimiento de Cristo constituye un punto de inflexión en la historia de la humanidad, dividiendo el tiempo y redefiniendo la concepción de lo divino y lo humano. Más allá de su dimensión religiosa, representa la encarnación de valores universales: la esperanza, la redención y el amor.
Su figura inspiró el arte, la ética, el derecho y la compasión en innumerables sociedades, modelando la civilización occidental y trascendiendo a otras culturas. Simbólicamente, marca la creencia en un Dios accesible que comparte la condición humana, ofreciendo un paradigma de fraternidad y dignidad inherente a cada persona, cuyo legado perdura como un faro de transformación espiritual y social.

Para una cultura isleña, tropical es difícil reconocer el verdadero significado de la nieve, o el blanco en la Navidad. Este hecho trasciende la mera decoración invernal. Simboliza la pureza inmaculada de la Virgen María y la naturaleza sin mancha del recién nacido Jesús. Este manto níveo representa la gracia divina que cubre y renueva todas las cosas, ofreciendo una página en blanco para la redención.
En contraste con la oscuridad del invierno y de los pecados del mundo, la nieve refleja la luz, anunciando que la encarnación de Cristo ilumina la condición humana. Así, el blanco navideño se convierte en una poderosa metáfora de limpieza espiritual, paz y el nuevo comienzo que trae al mundo.

Hace unos días escribí también que en mi país se anuló la tradición navideña por la política, sin embargo debemos acoger la Navidad con alegría porque celebra el nacimiento que encarna la esperanza más profunda; representa la luz en la oscuridad, el amor divino hecho humano, que comparte nuestro camino.
Esta festividad trasciende lo religioso para convertirse en un tiempo universal de reunión, donde el espíritu de generosidad y paz renueva los lazos familiares y comunitarios. Es una invitación a detenernos, a reflexionar con gratitud y a mirar hacia el futuro con fe renovada. Acoger este nacimiento con gozo es afirmar nuestra confianza en la bondad, en los nuevos comienzos y en la posibilidad de un mundo reconciliado.
Pintemos de blanco nuestros corazones y acunemos entonces todas las luces y colores para iluminar nuestro camino.

The Color of My Christmas is White

The first time I saw snow, at 38 years old, I couldn't understand my joy; it was a kind of longing with a strangeness that takes time to settle all the emotions accumulated in books, postcards, photographs, and stories.
I believe Christmas is the color white, not only because white is the color of snow but because colors and their role in the symbolism of our environment are part of our state of consciousness, and for me, white is purity and the clean intention of man.

Yesterday, the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin was celebrated, and because of her and her divine act of conceiving a man who marked eras and invites us to reevaluate our actions with faith and love, Christmas is celebrated and this time of year takes on a special meaning.
I was born into the Christian faith, and in my childhood, I couldn't explain certain things about these dates and their significance for humanity. The birth of Christ constitutes a turning point in human history, dividing time and redefining the conception of the divine and the human. Beyond its religious dimension, it represents the incarnation of universal values: hope, redemption, and love.
His figure inspired art, ethics, law, and compassion in countless societies, shaping Western civilization and transcending to other cultures. Symbolically, it marks the belief in an accessible God who shares the human condition, offering a paradigm of fraternity and dignity inherent to each person, whose legacy endures as a beacon of spiritual and social transformation.

For an island, tropical culture, it is difficult to recognize the true meaning of snow, or white at Christmas. This fact transcends mere winter decoration. It symbolizes the immaculate purity of the Virgin Mary and the spotless nature of the newborn Jesus. This snowy mantle represents the divine grace that covers and renews all things, offering a blank page for redemption.
In contrast with the darkness of winter and the sins of the world, the snow reflects the light, announcing that the incarnation of Christ illuminates the human condition. Thus, the Christmas white becomes a powerful metaphor for spiritual cleansing, peace, and the new beginning it brings to the world.

A few days ago I also wrote that in my country, the Christmas tradition was annulled by politics; however, we must welcome Christmas with joy because it celebrates the birth that embodies the deepest hope; it represents the light in the darkness, the divine love made human, which shares our path.
This holiday transcends the religious to become a universal time of gathering, where the spirit of generosity and peace renews family and community bonds. It is an invitation to pause, to reflect with gratitude, and to look toward the future with renewed faith. Welcoming this birth with joy is to affirm our trust in goodness, in new beginnings, and in the possibility of a reconciled world.
Let us paint our hearts white and then cradle all the lights and colors to illuminate our path.
