Greetings, dear community! Today I’m sharing with you the Saint Joseph I made for a medium-sized nativity scene I was commissioned to create. I previously shared the Virgin Mary, and while both figures are quite similar in their basic construction, there are some small but significant variations that make this one appear slightly taller—all while maintaining proper proportions relative to the first figure, ensuring they make a well-matched pair of amigurumis.

Proceso / Process

As I did for the Virgin, I created a 48-stitch-wide circle, working straight for 16 rows. I then performed 4 decreases over the course of 4 rows to form a torso with 36 stitches, which I worked straight for 10 rows before attaching the arms to the sides—bringing the stitch count back to 48. I also made the arms 2 rows longer than those of the Virgin, and worked decreases until I reached the width of the neck. To allow for arm mobility, I inserted a piece of floral wire inside, while for the neck, I inserted a silicone glue stick to provide greater stability.

For the head, I worked 6 increases per round until reaching 42 stitches, then worked 14 rounds without any increases. I positioned the eyes 6 rounds away from the increase section, with 9 stitches between them. Afterward, I worked 6 decreases per round and stuffed the head before closing it. For the hair, I started with a base 2 stitches wider than the head, worked straight for 5 rounds, and added 5 strands of hair—each made from a chain of 20—for the front.

For the beard, start with a foundation chain of 26 stitches and work one row of single crochet along both sides; for the headpiece, work a foundation chain of 48 stitches joined into a circle, followed by one row of single crochet. For the cloak, work 8 single crochet stitches for 28 rows, then add increases on one side until you reach 36 stitches; continue working straight for 6 rows, then sew it together and attach it to the body. The staff was made using galvanized wire wrapped in yarn.
