I was sitting at home this evening when there was a knock on the door and I answered the door. It was my upstairs neighbor. She had brought a plate of halva, which she was distributing to the apartment building in memory of a relative who had passed away. This tradition is an ongoing tradition in Turkish society and I wanted to write a post about it. Of course, after eating this beautiful halva first.
Since I had already had my dinner, I wanted to cook Turkish coffee to go with the halva. You know Turkish coffee goes very well with dessert.
After a mawlid or a good event, it is considered very normal to distribute sweets or any food on a plate to guests and neighbors to commemorate the event. Even when the food on the plate runs out, the plate is not returned empty. The food cooked at home is put in and brought back that way. Generally, pastry foods such as pastries or various desserts are brought back. Is there such a custom in your area?
I think this was semolina halva. It is made by roasting a flour-like powder called semolina in oil. But I don't know much about it because I haven't cooked it before. But it tastes good and is a light dessert. Halva is usually distributed after a death. It is also very popular to eat halva with fish dishes, in fact, in some fish restaurants you can see halva on the menu. And halva is a difficult dessert to adjust. The halva I had tonight was quite delicious, and the hazelnuts on top added a nice look and taste.

Bu akşam saatlerinde evde otururken kapı çalındı ve ben de kapıya baktım. Gelen üst komşumdu. Elinde bir tabakla helva getirmişti, vefat eden bir yakınının anısına apartmana dağıtıyormuş. Ben de kabul edip içeri geçtim. Bu gelenek Türk toplumunda süre gelen bir gelenektir ve ben de bu konu hakkında bir yazı yazmak istedim. Tabi öncesinde bu güzel helvayı yedikten sonra.
Akşam yemeğimi de yemiş olduğum için helvanın yanına Türk kahvesi pişirmek istedim. Bilirsiniz Türk kahvesi tatlıyla çok güzel gider.
Mevlid okuttuktan sonra ya da güzel bir olay yaşanınca bunun anısına konu-komşuya tatlı ya da tabakta herhangi bir yiyecek dağıtmak çok normal karşılanır. Hatta tabakta gelen yiyecek bitince tabak boş bir şekilde de geri verilmez. Evde pişen yiyeceklerden konur ve o şekilde geri getirilir. Genelde poğaça tarzında hamur işi yiyecekler ya da çeşitli tatlılardan konarak geri getirilir. Sizin oralarda da böyle bir adet var mı?
Bu sanırım irmik helvasıydı. İrmik denilen bir un benzeri tozun yağda kavurulmasıyla yapılıyor. Ama daha önce pişirmediğim için çok fazla bilmiyorum yapılışını. Ama tadı güzel ve hafif bir tatlı oluyor. Genellikle vefatların ardından helva dağıtılır. Balık yemeklerinin üzerine helva yemekte çok popülerdir hatta bazı balık restoranlarında menülerde helva da görülür. Ve ayarının tutturulması zor olan bir tatlıdır helva. Bu akşam yediğim helva oldukça lezzetliydi, üzerine konan fındıklar da güzel bir görünüm ve tat katmış oldu.
