Wraithvine and friends were riding in a carriage to the next village. A small child kept giggling, trying to swipe the pointed hat, wanting to wear it. The parent sighed with patience trying to get the somewhat rambunctious toddler to settle. -- Anon Guest
Gikka had to ride on the roof, under the close watch of the carriage guard. Strodius was wedged into a corner and incapable of movement. The Hellkin next to him was barely capable of crochet. There was one passenger who was free to move, and she was a little menace.
Toddlers tend to view grownups as a climbing challenge at the best of times, and for this little darling, the best game was getting her hands on the big colourful hat.
It was a game helped by her mother desperately attempting to keep her restrained. Or at least keep her out of everyone's faces. For little Bell, it was the best game she had ever played.
Some passengers exchanged wry glances with each other. Some smirked in fellow understanding. The poor beleaguered mother must have apologised to everyone in the carriage a hundred times.
"It's all new to you, little one," said Wraithvine. "You just want to have fun."
"Ainba," said Bell, pointing up to Wraithvine's Wizarding hat. "Wanna rainba,"
Since this little menace had stuck her hard shoes into a multiple of passengers' soft parts, ze decided to help everyone present. It always helped to have some spare scraps of fabric in a pocket. A little magic and those scraps could meld together a toddler-sized rainbow hat with a wide brim and a tall peak.
"There we go. One rainbow. Now you keep those sharp little bits to yourself, all right?"
"Yah," said Bell. She kept playing peek-a-boo with the help of her new brim until she finally fell asleep in her mother's arms.
The rest of those crammed into the carriage breathed a unified sigh of relief.
