While Wraithvine and friends stayed at a local Inn, the weather being too rainy and stormy to travel for the evening, some friendly warriors challenge Wraithvine to a drinking contest. Why? Just for giggles tonight, to have some fun. -- Anon Guest
"Are you certain?" said Wraithvine. Most of hir companions were fast asleep and the few who were awake were drowsing off to the sound of rain. It was looking to be a very boring day and there were no children to pass stories to.
"Just a bit o' fun, Elf," said the brigand named Bruess. "No quarrels, we swear."
"Yeh we get paid t' make others bleed, and ain't been given gold," said Korb. "Tell you what. We give th' barman all our blades and just drink until we all fall down. Good clean fun."
Wraithvine sighed and rolled hir eyes. "Very well. I insist on having the strong stuff so it's fair."
Laughter. The toughs thought this was hilarious.
"Nah mate. We drink the strong stuff and you get your girly weak fruity Elven wine."
Oh dear. That miscommunication. Elves were largely immune to the effects of alcohol. Before passing on their methods to other intelligent creatures, Elves generally viewed fermentation as a method for preserving fruit juice. All the snobbery about ageing in oak and subtle undertones was a direct result of their Fae origins.
Before its introduction to other peoples, Elven wine could knock a human out after one sip. Thus, they created two kinds of alcohol. Social alcohol, and party alcohol. Elven folk never shared the stronger stuff with the mundane folk. Thus, the mistaken belief that Elves were lightweights.
Wraithvine had an old bottle in hir pack and poured each tough a little thimble before pouring hirself a more generous glass. "Keep your feet after you drink that, and I will abide." Wraithvine sipped as each tough slammed back a thimble, and kept going backwards. Unconscious.
One had the time to say, "Interesting flav--" before he, too, passed out.
Wraithvine put the cork back into place and finished hir drink.
"I do hate cheating," ze said to nobody in particular, and enjoyed the sounds of the rain.
