The Human Factor by John Carlin. When I enjoyed the movie Invictus, I felt so many emotions, and since I know that this film was inspired by John Carlin's book The Human Factor, I immediately decided to read it. Logically, movies and books have differences in their narrative, but by reading the literature, I was sure that I would feel deeply all the emotions that Mandela felt when he was interviewed by this great journalist and writer. Carlin is accustomed to offering stories that present conflicts and, as a result of these conflicts, reveal all the humanity that they can hide. Furthermore, the author narrates his stories in a realistic way, since he has been at the scene of the events; he, more than anyone else, can offer us plots exactly as they happened, an example of which is the book The Human Factor. A book that emerged from continuous interviews with Nelson Mandela himself; he even interviewed his jailers, as well as experiencing firsthand Mandela's rise to the presidency and all the events that took place in South Africa, which, based on an idea that many considered far-fetched, led to an inevitable union of the population. Truly, we are in the presence of a book that reads like a real script, where every moment of reading becomes more interesting. Carlin's ability to tell real stories through the use of novel-writing techniques is unique; without even thinking about it, we believe we are watching a thriller, and as if that weren't enough, he makes the characters so human that the reader can easily identify with them. Without a doubt, this is a book you should enjoy.

We feel all this through the deep emotions of Nelson Mandela himself, a man who, despite all his suffering, never harbored an ounce of hatred toward his fellow human beings. His motto was to put himself in the other person's shoes to try to feel their fears. All of this is put into practice in South Africa, a country that was on the brink of civil war, so many would think that Mandela's rise to power would have been synonymous with revenge. On the contrary, his sense of unity was what mattered, and for that he had to have a lot of patience. For him, the union of blacks and whites could be a reality. He knew it would be difficult, but that idea would never leave his mind or heart. His intention was to turn his enemies into allies. How could he convince his enemies and unite all his people? Well, this is where Mandela's crazy but accurate idea came in: to use sport as a vehicle to achieve that reconciliation. However, the sport that was played was rugby, a discipline rejected by most black people. This would represent another obstacle, but for Mandela, as long as things were done with patience and love, nothing was impossible. From my point of view, this was an impressive strategy, because that sport represented white people, and through it, he knew he would achieve that alliance in order to destroy all barriers and converge in reconciliation. On the other hand, it is impressive to see how an idea that seemed completely crazy was enough to unite an entire people with one voice and thus forget that at one point there were differences. However, not everything was rosy, because even though things were going well, there was always a lot of tension. There were even people who wanted to see Mandela fail, but when there is leadership and an unshakeable idea, there will never be anyone who can destroy it. Without a doubt, the book leaves us with a profound lesson and makes us understand that revenge is unnecessary and that humiliating others does not make you a leader or stronger; a leader unites, does not destroy. At the time of Mandela's arrival, the rugby team was a symbol of oppression, but in the end, it became a tool for unity, removing from the minds of the people the mediocre pride and hatred that would have led them into a senseless war. For me, this book teaches us that no matter how dark the outlook may seem, there will always be a light on the path. I loved both the movie and the depth and emotion I felt from the book. El Factor Humano por John Carlin. Cuando disfruté la película Invictus, sentí demasiadas sensaciones y como sé que este filme fue inspirado por el libro El Factor Humano de John Carlin; de inmediato me propuse leerlo, ya que como es lógico, que los filmes y los libros tienen diferencias en su narrativa; al leer la literatura estaba seguro que sentiría de manera profunda, todas las emociones que sintió Mandela al ser entrevistado por este gran periodista y escritor. Carlin está acostumbrado a ofrecer historias donde se presentan conflictos y a raíz de éstos, descubrir toda la humanidad que pueden ocultar. Por otra parte; el autor narra sus historias de manera real, ya que ha estado en el lugar de los hechos; él más que nadie nos puede ofrecer tramas tal cual como sucedieron, ejemplo de ello, es el libro El Factor Humano. Un libro que surgió a partir de las continuas entrevistas al propio Nelson Mandela; incluso llegó a entrevistar a sus carceleros, ademas de vivir de cerca la llegada a la presidencia de Mandela y todos los hechos ocurridos en Sudáfrica, que a partir de una idea, para muchos descabellada, desembocaron en una inevitable unión de la población. De verdad, estamos en presencia de un libro que parece un verdadero guión, donde cada instante de la lectura se vuelve más interesante. La capacidad que tiene Carlin de contar historias reales a través del uso de técnicas para el desarrollo de novelas es único; sin nosotros pensarlo, creemos que estamos viendo un thriller y por si fuera poco; hace que los personajes sean tan humanos, que permite al lector identificarse fácilmente con ellos; sin duda alguna un libro que debes disfrutar.

Para él; la unión de blancos y negros podría ser una realidad, sabía que era difícil, pero de su mente y corazón jamás saldría esa idea. Su intención era la de convertir a sus enemigos en aliados. ¿Cómo podría convencer a sus enemigos y unir a todo su pueblo?; bueno, es aquí donde surge la descabellada, pero acertada idea de Mandela, de usar el deporte como vehículo para lograr esa reconciliación. Sin embargo; el deporte que se practicaba era el rugby, disciplina repudiada por la mayoría de los negros. Esto representaría otro obstáculo; pero para Mandela, mientras las cosas se hagan con paciencia y amor, no había nada imposible. Desde mi punto de vista; esta fue una estrategia impresionante, porque ese deporte representaba a la gente blanca y a través de él, sabía que lograría esa alianza para así destruir todas las barreras y converger en la reconciliación. Por otra parte; es impresionante ver como una idea que parecía una total locura, haya sido motivo suficiente para que todo un pueblo se uniera en una sola voz y así olvidar que en algún momento existian diferencias. Sin embargo; no todo fue color de rosas, porque aunque las cosas iban bien, siempre se sintió mucha tensión; incluso, habían personas que querían ver el fracaso de Mandela, pero cuando existe liderazgo y una idea que es inquebrantable; jamás habrá quien la destruya. Sin lugar a dudas; el libro nos deja una profunda enseñanza y nos hace entender, que la venganza no es necesaria y que humillar a los demás no te hace ni líder, ni más fuerte; un líder une, no destruye. Para el momento de la llegada de Mandela, el equipo de rugby era el símbolo de quien oprimía, pero al final; se convirtió en la herramienta de unión, alejando de la mente del pueblo ese orgullo mediocre y ese odio que los hubiese llevado a una guerra sin sentido. Para mí; este libro nos enseña que por más oscuro que se vea el panorama, siempre habrá una luz en el camino.
