How are curation rewards actually calculated?

After you read this article (with hf20 updates here, but the first article gives the essentials) by miniature-tiger@miniature-tiger, you'll understand the details of what I think most people only understand the generalities of.

To sum an already tidy summation, squares are used.

Why is this good for minnows AND whales?

A wonderful and fascinating artifact of this is that it is far easier for a $0.01 vote to return $0.02 to its voter than for a $1 vote to return $2. Therefore, minnows can double their value faster than whales. Just like a game, leveling up is easier at the beginning.

This is maybe not worth a whole post.

The point is: redfish and minnows, upvote everything at 10-15 minutes that

  1. has less than a few cents worth of votes so far
    and
  2. you think will be worth even a dollar

There you have it.
