I just put the kid to bed. Well, I put the kid to bed, then fed the dogs and washed the dishes. My wife isn't home; she's visiting her mom this week. The dogs probably expect to be walked right now, but the kid and I walked them just a couple hours ago, and I decided they'd be able to make it until our neighbor can come walk them for me.
I read a thread by a doctor about dealing with icu covid patients. It's sad, I know consciously, but I don't feel sad until I read the comments. Until I see how many people feel sad, viscerally, because covid is taking their family.
There's some alarm going off nearby. It's probably nothing.
It stops, and it's quiet. But it doesn't feel like a peaceful quiet. It feels fraught.
I'm lonely.
The cat is talking in the hallway, but he's not at the door. The dog gets up to see, and like that, the moment has passed.
It'll be back, though. As soon as I look away, it'll be back.
