Zak was 5 years old when he took a liking for the piano, he would spend hours everyday tapping away at the keys making some of the most fantastic music that he had ever heard.
He loved the way he could run his hand backwards and forwards and create trills. Different pressure on the keys would create sharp loud and soft quiet sounds.
The nuance of the keyboard allowed him to express the music that was always going on in his head.
His parents always encouraged him and by the time he was ten he was pretty much mastering the intricacies that this instrument had to offer, and he was also now able to reach the pedals which gave him another avenue of expression that he didn’t realise was there.
Maybe we should get him some lessons, his parent though, so they hunted for a great Piano Teacher who could come and enable Zac to really blossom with this instrument.
Mr Hodges appeared, he was a disheveled man, hair all a sunder, wearing an old jacket that had seen better days, but he was highly recommended by the local music school. A Maestro they had said.
We want you to allow Zac his freedom of expression and maybe just teach him some structure . and , maybe he can start doing some concerts.
Zacs parents were all giddy from the possibility that Mr Hodges would help get Zac to the pinnacle of playing.
Where is Zac, Mr Hodges said,
Oh he out the back, we have a studio in the yard and that is where he plays.
Mr Hodges took himself to see this wonder child, all the time thinking, Every Parent thinks their child is wonderful.
After 10 minutes Mr Hodges came back into the house, looked at Zacs parents and said
That’s enough, this boy is no pianist the way he attacks that keyboard he might as well be a drummer.
