Ask anyone who has made a quantum leap to become successful or have had accelerated growth and you’d find a trend. They changed a habit!!
In the words of Ken Blanchard, “Life, business and everything changes once we dare to change something we are used to doing every day”.
To illustrate this: Let me start with the story of the 4 Minutes Barrier:
There used to be something in athletics called the 4 Minutes Barrier, no one had ever crossed it.
So it was said that the human body does not possess the ability to run so fast, that it can go past a mile in less than 4 minutes. It was a scientific fact for over a thousand years, till 1954.
In 1954, a man called Roger Bannister broke it in the Olympics. Wow, tens of century myth and fact had been broken! But guess what? It took almost a thousand years for just one person to break it, but ever since in 1954, 20, 000 people have ran past the 4 minutes barrier including high school kids, so what changed in that 10 years?
One person to challenge status quo, is all it takes.
Never be afraid of change. As a matter of fact, never be afraid to be that initiator of the change. Be a pace setter. Empires, systems and nations are usually built by the collaborations of dreamers, thinkers and doers. Old ones are laid off by the lack of change. But the spark is usually started off by dreamers. You should be one. All it takes is for one guy to initiate change or at least dare to dream, and then break a barrier and hundred others will follow.
There's something called the Golden Circle of a start-up, it’s three nested circled drawn as a Venn Diagram First. It is the What, the How and the Why.
Start with the why, and then work towards the what. The why is to break barriers.
We need people to set a new pace and initiate change. Change will always happen anyway; you initiate it, accept it or get consumed by it. Sadly, change happens and when the change outside an organization is much more than that inside the organization, then that organization is in trouble.
We need social disrupters for the sake of innovation for this is how Ergonomics is born, which is defined as comfort design. It is the degree of how well work and machine intuitively fits the man. Before now, man had to fit into a machine. Now machines have to fit the man. This is the reasons why cars are designed to be easier to drive these days, gadgets need no manuals these days and phones are smarter. You need to be a change agent in functionality to beat competition. You’d need this more if you run a start-up.
We need you and more people to start up. And from Start-ups to Business and from Business to Upstarts (spin offs). Dreamers live in the future, they only walk back to the present.
