[Movie] The Desperate Hour

Hello, my fellow cinephiles! As the new week begins, I’m sharing a new review. It’s a somewhat clichéd film—blending suspense and a touch of drama—that’s entertaining enough to pass the time. It features a "desperate hour" scenario, where, as time ticks away, you find yourself jumping to conclusions.

Mis amigos cinefilos, gusto saludarlos, inicio de semana, con una nueva reseña, una pelicula algo trillada, con suspenso y algo de drama, entreteniada, para ver y pasar el rato, con esa hora desesperada, a medida que pasa el tiempo, sacando conclusiones anticipadas.

When I saw that it starred Naomi Watts, I got curious—she’s great in drama and suspense films. I skimmed the synopsis and thought, "Sounds interesting; let’s see how it unfolds." I won’t deny that it’s a bit clunky and slow at the start—and, well, as it goes on... guess what? It stays that way! Haha—well, maybe not entirely. The story reminded me of another film I saw recently, The Runner, starring Gal Gadot.

Desperate Hour follows Amy Carr (Naomi Watts), who heads out for a morning run after seeing her young daughter off to school on the bus. While running, she receives a call informing her that the high school attended by her teenage son, Noah, has been placed on lockdown due to an active shooter. Isolated in the middle of the woods, miles away from town, Amy desperately uses her cell phone to reach out to the police, friends, and even strangers—all in an effort to understand the situation and, of course, save her son’s life.

Cuando vi que era con esta actriz Naomi Watts, me dio curiosidad, ella hace buenas peliculas de drama y suspenso, medio lei la sinopsis y dije, suena interesante, veamos como se desarrolla, y no niego al principio es un poco engorrosa, lenta, pero a medida que transcurre, adivinen que sigue igual jajaja, bueno no tanto, esta historia me recordo a la que vi hace poco, The Runner, con Gal Gadot.

Hora Desesperada sigue a Ami Warr(Naomi Watts), quien sale a correr en la mañana despues de ver ir a su pequeña hija ir a la escuela en su transpore escolar, a medida que corre, recibe una llamada donde le dicen que la escuela secundaria de su hijo adolescente, Noah, ha sido confinada por la presencia de un tirador activo. Aislada en medio del bosque y a kilómetros del pueblo, Amy utiliza su celular de forma desesperada para comunicarse con la policía, con amigos y desconocidos para saber la situacion y por supuesto salvar la vida de su hijo.

The film centers primarily on its main character—a desperate mother who spends the entire story running, trying to reach her son’s school. She doesn’t know for sure what is happening, and the confusing information she receives causes her to lose control as she struggles to understand the "why" and "how" of the situation. There is no doubt that the entire weight of the film rests on this actress; as I mentioned, the story revolves almost exclusively around her—an hour filled with agony and frustration—as she relies solely on her phone to communicate with others and find out what is going on.

I initially thought this was a recent film, but it turns out it’s from 2021. To be honest, I expected more; watching this woman just run, without any other settings or scenes, doesn't quite make sense. If the plot was centered on a school shooting, perhaps they could have shown more of that to add greater intensity and drama. Instead, it focuses entirely on a mother’s moments of anguish—which, I suppose, was the point. It does have a certain logic to it: not knowing what is happening, or whether your child is still alive—and all the thoughts that might race through your mind—is an incredibly difficult experience.

Anyway, I won’t say any more, in case you decide to watch it. Just don’t expect any grand, spectacular scenes—you won’t find them here. It’s a rather flat story, though certainly a nerve-wracking one, haha! I’ll leave it at that.

La pelicula se basa mas que todo en el personaje principal, que viene siendo esta mujer, una madre desesperada, que se la pasa corriendo en todo el transcurso de la historia, intentando llegar al colegio de su hijo, sin saber a ciencia cierta, que esta ocurrriendo, recibiendo informacion confusa,que la hace perder el control, intentando entender el porque y como., no cabe duda que todo el peso del film recae sobre esta actriz, como mencione, toda la historia basicamente se basa en ella, en esa hora llena de agonia, y frustracion, solo dependiendo de su telefono para poder comunicarse con los demas, y asi poder saber que sucede.

Yo pense que esta pelicula era reciente, resulta que es del 2021, la verdad esperaba algo mas, ver a esta mujer solo correr, sin mostrar otros escenarios, no tiene sentido, si la trama se basaba en lo del tiroteo en la escuela, tal vez pudieron haberlo mostrado mas, y darle mayor intensidad y drama, pero no, solo se baso en esos momentos de angustia de una madre, supongo que de eso se trataba, y si tiene algo de logica, porque el no saber que ocurre, si tu hijo esta vivo, todas las ideas que se te pueden pasar por la mente, no es nada facil.

En fin, no les contare mas, a ver si se animan a verla, eso si, no esperen grandes escenas porque no las van a encontrar, es una historia plana, desesperante eso si jeje, ahi se las dejo.
