During the annual masquerade festivity, kids flee the street, each one running with his/her fear, finding where to hide from enormous beatings from the 'Araorun's' (the agent of heaven's) cane and their fearful regalia's and voices.
Some flee to behind the doors, curtains, under the tables, on the bed or under a heap of mountaneous clothes.
But still, the fear would be there, it feels as though the masquerade will just fetch you from wherever you are hiding and drop you in a pot of soup at any given time.
At one time, I had fled to sit among some elders at 'oke-ile', ( upstairs) but the masquerade will just walk pass, some will even wait back to genuflect and eulogize the elders.
Now I see:
We were running with our fear to the wrong places
At childhood, we all have developed a telltale symptoms of our fear.
Truth is; our emotions/mind can generate solid evidence to validate our fear/anxiety most especially at night.
The so many experience from feeling like someone peeping on you from behind the door when actually it was a cloth hanged on it, or feeling like someone is looking down and frightening you beside the bed when actually it's a standing fan and many more of such.
