Oh la la, it's Tuesday and here on-chain, it's TTT time, so let's get it going!
These tunes have been sitting in my draft for almost a year, so I guess it's time to let them out. I can't recall why I have them (as a single post), but they must have struck a chord in me, so I saved them.
The first, by Brett Michael Dennen, is a thought-provoking folk-pop track from his 2006 album So Much More.
Ain't No Reason
The lyrics focus on existential reflection about modern life, materialism, and other societal flaws. Listening to it again today gave me goosebumps. That's probably why I had it saved (not sure). Anyway, Brett's soulful voice is easy on the ears. The acoustic instrumentation creates a raw and intimate atmosphere.
This next is a 1971 folk-rock song by British artist Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam).
Peace Train
The song's lyrics dream of a world as one, inviting others to board the movement toward peace and leave behind darkness, hatred, and war. It's an anthem of hope, unity, and global harmony.
According to info, this track became Steven's first top-10 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 7 and also No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart.(1)
And this third tune is a soulful track released in 1990 by a Senegalese singer and actor, Ismael Lo.
Tajabone
This is so gentle and melodic. Lo's soothing vocals feel like a lullaby. With soft acoustic guitar fingerpicking, melancholic harmonica, and lush orchestral backing, the song is truly a relaxing masterpiece. I had it on repeat as I did my edits. According to Wiki, the track became a major hit in Europe and gained international fame, launching the singer's international career.
Curious, I went on to check what Tajabone meant, and here's what I got:
Tajabone is a folk festival to celebrate Tamxarit (Ashura) by young people in Senegal. Occasionally, boys and girls in disguise roam the streets at nightfall, singing and dancing all around the houses and asking for gifts.(2)
