My visit to the most impotent architectural icon of the city of havana, Cuba "El Capitolio" 馃嚚馃嚭 馃彌 [ENG] [ESP]

If you are a fan of culture, design and architecture of buildings; it is a pleasure to share with you one of the most emblematic architectural icons of Havana, Cuba as "El Capitolio". Likewise, it is named by some experts as one of the six most important palaces in the world.

Si eres un fan de la cultura, dise帽o y arquitectura de edificios; es un placer compartir con ustedes uno de los iconos arquitect贸nicos m谩s emblem谩ticos de La Habana, Cuba pues "El Capitolio". As铆 mismo, aparece nombrado por algunos expertos como uno de los seis palacios de mayor relevancia a nivel mundial.
This majestic building located in downtown Havana, is similar to the Capitol in Washington D.C., but one meter higher, one meter wider, one meter longer and much richer in beautiful details.
To tell you a little of its history we can start with its construction, on May 20, 1929, which lasted only 3 years. Being one of the most significant works of the early twentieth century on the island.
The Capitol occupies a total surface of 12,000 square meters and of them, 10,839 are roofed area. Its dome is, for its diameter and height, considered "the sixth in the world".

Para hablarles un poco de su historia podemos empezar por su construcci贸n, el 20 de Mayo de 1929 que dur贸 tan solo 3 a帽os. Siendo de las obras m谩s significativas de principios del siglo XX en la isla.
El Capitolio ocupa una superficie total de 12 000 metros cuadrados y de ellos, 10 839 son 谩rea techada. Su c煤pula es, por su di谩metro y altura, considerada "la sexta del mundo".
At the beginning of this adventure inside the impotent building, it is worth mentioning that the monumental staircase has 55 steps, which will make you sweat a little as you enter its history 馃榿馃憣.
It features on its sides two large statues, cast in bronze and restored in 2020, resting on both sides of the main entrance ("The People's Tutelary Virtue" and "The People's Creative Work") both 6.5 meters high.
Al iniciar esta aventura dentro del impotente edificio, se puede mencionar que la escalinata monumental cuenta con 55 pelda帽os, que te har谩n sudar un poco al adentrarnos a su historia 馃榿馃憣.
Presenta a sus lados dos estatuas de gran tama帽o, fundidas en bronce y restauradas en el 2020, que descansan a ambos lados de la entrada principal ( La Virtud Tutelar del Pueblo y El Trabajo Creador del Pueblo ) ambas de 6.5 metros de altura.
Already at the beginning you will see three access doors melted in bronze, on which are engraved beautiful decorations of various historical scenes from pre-Columbian times to the inauguration of the Capitol.
Carefully designed, its interior is one of the richest in Cuban architecture with a slight Frenchified air, with its super striking dome of vibrant colors. In its structure, some of its marble is Italian, its lampear铆as are American and even the locks, keys and hinges show the concern for all the details 馃ぉ.

Ya en el comienzo ver谩n tres puertas de acceso derretidas en bronce, en las cuales se encuentran grabadas decoraciones bell铆simas de diversas escenas hist贸ricas de la 茅poca precolombina hasta la inauguraci贸n del Capitolio.
Cuidadosamente dise帽ado, su interior es de los m谩s ricos en la arquitectura cubana con un ligero aire afrancesado, con su c煤pula s煤per llamativa de colores vibrantes. En su estructura algunos de sus m谩rmoles son italianos, su lampear铆as son norteamericanas y hasta las cerraduras, llaves y bisagras dejan entrever la preocupaci贸n por todos los detalles 馃ぉ.

Upon opening its doors, the first impact is a 16-meter-high bronze sculpture, including its massive pedestal made of ancient Egyptian onyx marble and laminated in 22-karat gold, named "The Republic" with a weight of 30 tons 馃槺. It is recognized as the third tallest indoor in the world.

A beautiful woman's face very similar to a Greek goddess along with a sculptural Creole body, is accompanied by a spear and a shield with the Cuban symbol, and seems ready to defend with courageous authority, wisdom and vigilance, the peace and serenity of a people.

Right there in the Hall of the Lost Steps under the dome, a 25-carat diamond 馃拵 was placed embedded in the floor in the middle of a marble star and placed in correspondence with the kilometer zero of the Central Highway of Cuba. An element that enriches its mystique.

Pues se cuenta que el mismo ha sido reemplazado por una r茅plica y que el original se encuentra guardado en el Banco Central del pa铆s.
In the tour with the guide, an impressive show of eclectic art in the corridor, which leads to the junction of the north and south wings of the building.
There begins the circle that will accompany us to the different hemicycles, starting with the House of Representatives to the north, and the Senate to the south, and the other rooms arranged for different functions: decorative, exhibitions and meetings.

All铆 da comienzo al c铆rculo que acompa帽ar谩 hasta los diferente hemiciclos, comenzando por la C谩mara de Representantes al norte, y la del Senado al sur, y los dem谩s salones dispuestos para diferentes funciones: decorativas, exposiciones y reuniones.
This room "Baire" was the place of representatives for conferences, coffee breaks or Havana cigars and protocols. The colorful decoration is fantastic, its lamps and seats are very baroque and elegant.

Entering the hall once occupied by the House of Representatives of the Republic, it is currently a space used by the commissions of the National Assembly of People's Power, which is its institutional headquarters. The place is impeccably maintained in terms of details and care, with a Greco-Roman style and a capacity for 300 people.
Adentr谩ndome a la sala que ocup贸 en su momento la C谩mara de Representantes de la Rep煤blica, es actualmente un espacio de uso habitual para las comisiones de la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular, que corresponde su sede institucional. El lugar se mantiene impecable en cuanto a detalles y cuidados, con un estilo grecorromano y una capacidad para 300 personas.
The natural environment in the division of the rooms is sumptuously ornate, with pure lines and beautiful proportions. Both inside and outside the Capitol, everything is arranged with its classical lamps, statues and well-fertile plants.

The statue we see is the one named "Angel fallen from the sky" and represents Lucifer, supposedly it is in that area because it represents the Rebellion. And it is one of the most beautiful angles to take good pictures.

In the other galleries and spaces is the "Yara" room with showcases, sculptures, precious woods, glassware and vessels from classical times, with an impeccable condition in the exhibition hall.

We move on to the "Mart铆" Hall, in the center, with a beautiful chromatism and Italian Renaissance style. It has an interior decoration that alludes to the muses of knowledge and thought, which give a real sense to its use, to serve as anteroom to the library dedicated to the greatest Cuban.
That library, previously reserved for congressmen, preserved much of the original furniture. It was a reference and consultation room of the National Library of Science and Technology in Cuba 馃嚚馃嚭.
Pasamos al Sal贸n "Mart铆", al centro, con un bello cromatismo y de estilo renacimiento italiano. Posee un decorado interior que alude a las musas del saber y del pensar, que dan un real sentido a su uso, servir de antesala a la biblioteca dedicada al m谩s grande de los cubanos.
Esa biblioteca, antes reservada a los congresistas, conserv贸 gran parte del mobiliario original. Fue una sala de consultas y referencias de la Biblioteca Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnolog铆a en cuba 馃嚚馃嚭.
Next is the "Gu谩imaro" Hall, which has a room dedicated to the history of the Cuban patriotic symbols: the lone star flag, the coat of arms and the national anthem, also called "Himno de Bayamo" (Bayamo Anthem). A unique opportunity to know and understand the origin of these representations.

In these last rooms "Duaba" you can appreciate beautiful collections of crystals, showcases with historical character of the nation, crockery, cutlery from both the Capitol and the Presidential Palace. There is also a room dedicated to Mexico 馃嚥馃嚱 and its representatives' visits to the country.

In conclusion of all the tour of this immense masterpiece, you can see its beautiful tangible impact in which the materials and objects of our independence deeds are preserved, a rich history in the exhibition halls that present the construction of the Capitol and restoration.
To think that there are thousands of Cubans working to conserve and safeguard an invaluable treasure of our history is a great merit after having gone through a "murky and complicated" period.
