This is a continuation of a series of images that I have done. The links are below. What I have been doing is showing a work in progress to show how a digital set artist does her work. Many times there has to be a high quality option for directors who need a good set but have time or financial restrictions. Or if dealing with a Sci Fi production even physically possible in the first place.
Rapid Set Development
What you are seeing here is one such exercise. Most of the things that you see in this scene are building block object that I have a large variety of Sci Fi structures. They are fit together like building blocks and each part has either a light metal materiel, a dark metal material, or self illuminated class window facades.
Shedding A Little Light
From there many instances of the same types of lights were used as down lights under decks and balconies. An environment picture that wraps the scene also helps to light it with the help of a sun light. All of this is then manage by exposure, saturation, contrast and those sorts of attributes are set.
