Ok, I think today will simply be an outpouring of musings.

What would happen if the world would stop spinning? Hmm. Well, some lands would be stuck in day, some in night, some at dusk, some at dawn. Sort of an Aberat world, at that, except without the magic and terrible beasts and wondrous sights and... ok, not an Aberat world.

Presumably some of these lands would be more valued than others - perhaps the lands of dawn and dusk would be filled with the highest, richest tier of people living. The quality of life there would be high - except for possibly that of the lower-class servants (darkies? for those who live on the night side of things?). Unless, of course, there were robot servants. Entirely possible, unless I've read I Robot too recently and I simply lean in that direction subconsciously.

Hmm. There would obviously be no knowledge of how it happened, for without human ignorance, life is simply meaningless. Or informed. That works too, but it's not as fun. Let's see... there would be conspiracy theories - about governments undertaking a secret project, trying to subjugate their people or others... there would be theries of Alien invasion, theories of Global warming (No, I don't know how that would work either. But we all know that someone's going to be saying it, or more likely screaming it), theories of Apocalypse and religious coming. And then there would be those who would dramatically shout "For Science!" and do idiotic things.

And then... and then the world would simply continue for a time. The overall look might change drastically, but the systematic workings of the world's inhabitants would remain. Human Nature is human nature, be it bad, good, a subtle mix, or something altogether different. And then something would go wrong, the world would explode, and we'd all die.

Sorry Not actually sorry. I was far too tempted.

Hmm, what to think about next... see, for all you functional people, that question would never come into play. I'm not really sure whether it's because I'm considerably stupider than the rest of you, considerably smarter than the rest of you, just somewhat different than the rest of you, or simply not actually human. _"Son, we've got something to tell you. You're adopted. From another planet species." Or perhaps it's the rest of you who are not really human, you've just been deceiving me this whole time.

Now why would you think I'm into conspiracy theories?

And while we're on that topic, let's think for a little while about what would happen if every other fantasy novel were true, and people did have a connection with an element in nature. But let's take it a step further - everybody would connect with Chinese elements, each person with the one or ones they associate with the most.

Let's not give some people more power than others - I'm not actually writing that fantasy novel, which would obviously be dystopian, with a strong female lead who doesn't actually have any true character development over the course of the novel or its 2 sequels... or 3 prequels. (Or alternate versions of the same events set in others' perspectives.) Welcome to the world of modern fantasy.

Or maybe some should have more power - each person's power would be determined by their inner strength, their strength of will. Not obstinacy when pushed by others, but against their own inner demons, temptations, and desires. So basically I'd be worthless (I've got the obstinacy/contrary thing down pat. Inner strength needs a little work though.) I suppose said power would then be distributed among each of the elements the subject associates with - for I doubt there's anyone whose personality can't be split among a few. Again, distribution of power would go based off of how much the person associates with said element - For example: 50% fire, 40% water, 7% wood, 3% earth. Thus splitting up all of his/her power.

Let's see... the power would have had to develop later, otherwise we'd have to consider a completely different world or one wherein everything developed differently. Nations would not have aligned as they have, political systems would be considerably changes, life in general would be different. Any author who attempts to work with this just creates a headache - or an entirely new world, and any author who doesn't just annoys the discerning reader. So no, we'll just say it happens today, or perhaps tomorrow.

Now what would be the cause of such a drastic change in human abilities? ... Perhaps the pausing of the world's spinning? Or maybe the two of them would come together as the aftereffects of some other random, almost entirely anassociatable (not a word, but it should be) event. I don't know, if I were in the mood I'd likely suggest it came from some alternate dimension/universe and delve into that, but that's not our subject for musing today.

Perhaps it is these very powers which would cause the world to explode. Maybe it's actually up to us to fix it and prevent the world from exploding, up to us to save everyone's lives. Quick - right now, check if the world stopped spinning. Actually - don't even bother checking, just run outside to a secluded area and start practicing your powers. Perhaps in the woods, though maybe not if you have a fiery type personality. The world needs you to save it, the place is here, the time is now. I'd finish up this piece of writing, but I don't have the time - I have to go practice now!

Oh, and watch out for crowds of people walking around carrying pitchforks and torches, and chanting "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live!" Those can be dangerous.
