Bog Oak
Bog oak is oak wood that has been buried in a peat bog for thousands of years.
The low oxygen in the bog prevents the oak from rotting and so is preserved.
The bog provides minerals which react with the tannins in the wood to give it its distinctive black colour.
As it is very rare, this type of wood is very expensive.
This is almost a complete tree trunk found preserved in the local bogs.
